AJ Allmendinger is moving back to fulltime Cup Series competition in 2025, where he will drive the No. 16 NASCAR Chevy Camaro ZL1 fielded by Kaulig Racing.
As per a report from NASCAR.com, Allmendinger is a current Xfinity Series regular and has been a part of the Kaulig stable since 2019. This season, in addition to his fulltime Xfinity duties, he’s split the No. 16 Camaro with a handful of other drivers, sharing the car with Ty Dillon, Derek Kraus, Shane van Gisbergen, and Josh Williams.
Thus far, Allmendinger has three Cup Series wins, all earned with Kaulig, along with 17 Xfinity Series victories. Of those, he’s racked up 15 over the past five seasons with Kaulig. Allmendinger last competed fulltime in the Cup Series in 2023 driving the No. 16 Camaro. His most recent victory in the division was at the Charlotte Roval in October 2023, when he beat Kyle Busch’s No. 8 NASCAR Chevy across the line.
Currently, Allmendinger is sixth in the Xfinity Series, with three top-five finishes in 20 starts so far. He hasn’t won yet this year, but he’s been successful in the division, securing the regular season championship in 2021 and 2022. He will also take a shot at the Cup Series this weekend at Michigan, driving the No. 16 NASCAR Chevy for Kaulig on Sunday, August 18th, while competing with the same number on Saturday during the Xfinity Series race – weather permitting.
Kaulig has not announced plans for its No. 16 Camaro Xfinity Series program in 2025 after Allmendinger moves back to Cup competition. Van Gisbergen, Australian Supercars Championship veteran turned fulltime Xfinity Series competitor in 2024, currently drives the No. 97 NASCAR Chevy for Kaulig in the division, but there are rumors that he may move to the Cup Series as part of the Trackhouse Racing stable in 2025. At this time, however, nothing has been confirmed.
