The Chevy Tahoe is receiving a mid-cycle refresh for the new model year, showcasing revised front and rear styling, an overhauled cabin with a new infotainment system, and enhanced active safety features. In addition, the availability of 2025 Chevy Tahoe’s optional powertrains has been updated engine across most of its model range.
For starters, here’s a quick overview of the 2025 Tahoe’s powerplant options. Engine choices consist of the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the new-for-2025 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
Looking over the table below, we can see that the 5.3L L84 is equipped as standard fare on every trim level except the range-topping High Country, which features the 6.2L L87 instead. The latter is also offered as an option on RST, Z71, and Premier trim levels. Interestingly, the 6.2L L87 is now a standalone option on the RST and Z71 instead of being included and only available with option packages on the 2024 Tahoe. However, option packages are required beforehand on the 2025 Tahoe, except on the Premier.

- Requires 4WD when Sun and Tow Package (PCU), High Country Deluxe (PDM) or Technology and Entertainment Package (PDG) are ordered
The turbodiesel offering was previously a standalone option, but now requires choosing at least one package beforehand. The 3.0L LZ0 is available on all trim levels except the entry-level LS. As GM Authority has been closely following, the refreshed 2025 Tahoe Z71 will finally receive the turbodiesel Duramax engine option, as the off-road-focused variant could previously be equipped with a gasoline powerplant only. It’s worth noting that the 3.0L LZ0 won’t be available until later in the 2025 model year.
For reference, here’s a breakdown on the engine availabilities for the 2024 Tahoe:
Engine | RPO Code | LS | LT | RST | Z71 | Premier | High Country |

As a reminder, the refreshed 2025 Chevy Tahoe remains underpinned by the GM T1 platform, while production is currently scheduled to get underway in October 2024 at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

Such a great refresh. Yukon and Escalade are fine, but weren’t really necessary (exterior-wise).
LS needs the diesel, like before.
A good way to kill the diesel engine. Ask to order many packages with it so the real price increase is much higher. After that GM will say we have to shut it down sales numbers went down.
Out of the 3 big SUV’s, I like the Tahoe refresh the best. I saw my first one going down the road this morning, really liked it in black. I couldn’t tell what trim it was, but it was sharp looking.
Bull $hit! They aren’t on the street yet.
Any news on when we can order a 2025 Tahoe?
I the dealer told me October 7th or 9th, I honestly can’t remember. Can’t wait to order, though!
no diesel in z71 with second row bench, gad damnit
Still cannot get ventilated seats until you move up to the Premier or High Country. Should be standard for the price of the Z71 and RST trims. Standard on GMC LT trim
Your 2024 chart needs an edit, the LM2 is available on LS for 2024 model year, yet you’ve got it listed as not available.
6.2 all day baby 🙂
So what if you want the updated LZ0 diesel engine and its low end torque for road trips/ fuel economy, but doesn’t need to tow anything? Why force you to add the Tow Package? So backwards!
Diesel must be a stand alone option, period !
I don’t know why you make all options are complicated, basic Chinese cars has such options, please you have to follow global market, and go out of the box.
