2024 Buick Envision Recalled For Accelerator Pedals Getting Stuck Behind Floor Mats

General Motors has released a recall for certain examples of the 2024 Buick Envision due to an issue with the all-weather floor liners.
The problem: affected Envision units may have a condition where the driver-side all-weather floor liner sold by GM can interfere with the accelerator pedal, causing it to become trapped beneath the liner and stuck in a depressed position.
The hazards: if this condition were to occur, unintended acceleration may occur, thus increasing the risk of an accident.
The fix: certified GM technicians will be instructed to inspect affected vehicles and perform one of two actions. On dealer inventory vehicles, techs are instructed to remove and discard the driver-side all-weather floor liner. On customer owned vehicles, if the driver-side all-weather floor liner is present, techs will modify the liner in the area of interference with the accelerator pedal. Once the liner has been modified, owners will be reimbursed the original cost of the all-weather floor liner. Owners who don’t want a modified floor liner will have the option to return the liners for reimbursement. It should take certified GM tech 30 minutes or less to perform these corrections.
Affected components: Driver-side all-weather floor liner.

Number of affected vehicles: There are 27,793 examples covered by this recall.

So is this why the 2024 Envisions are all currently labeled as “Temporarily unavailable”?
Why is a vehicle being recalled due to a fault in a non-original part?
Was that your response when Toyota had to recall millions for the exact same thing?
As a surgeon the saying goes “When in doubt, cut it out.”
Similar has happened to other automobile manufacturers in the past, so you would think GM would ensure all its’ products pass a “non-interfering floor mat” test before manufacturing begins. It seems management at GM is unteachable.
Either a missing floor mat or hacked up one. Great ideas!
