We Render A Modern-Day 2025 Pontiac GTO Coupe

The Pontiac GTO drifted off into the sunset in 2006 after five generations on the market, much to the dismay of enthusiasts around the world. Often credited with popularizing the muscle car segment in the ’60s, the Pontiac GTO nameplate is still synonymous with performance and no shortage of attitude. Now, GM Authority is reimagining The Goat as a modern two-door coupe for the 2025 model year.

Badging on the front grille of the Pontiac GTO.

First and foremost, we should mention that this rendering was executed simply for the fun of it, and that as far as we know, General Motors doesn’t have any specific plans to offer a new Pontiac GTO any time in the future. With that in mind, we should at least mention the “Pontiac Is Back” hoax perpetrated last May, in which a full-page ad was run in a popular automotive magazine declaring the imminent rebirth of the Pontiac brand. As GM Authority covered previously, the ad was little more than a joke (in fact, it even stated as much in the fine print), but it still rekindled a huge amount of interest in the brand.

Now, GM Authority is breaking out its digital pen set to create this modern-day Pontiac GTO Coupe.

With regard to styling, the front end features pointed headlamps and a classic twin-snout front intake, plus two smaller air intakes positioned higher in the hood. These are joined by vertical intakes in the sides of the fascia and a wide lower intake in the bumper.

The sides of the machine reveal large wheels and plus-sized brakes, as well as sideview mirrors done in black. The lower aero elements are also finished in black, adding to the sporty look. The muscular wheel arches and sleek body lines enhance the car’s modern aesthetic while paying homage to its muscle car heritage.

In the rear, we see a set of Camaro-esque taillights, as well as a trunk spoiler and four exhaust outlets. The GTO and Pontiac badges are prominently displayed, signifying the car’s proud lineage.

As for what we’re imagining under the skin, a modern Pontiac GTO would likely ride on the GM Alpha 1 platform, essentially making it a re-bodied sixth-generation Chevy Camaro. Power options would include the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT1, as well as the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4, with the option for either an automatic or a manual transmission providing the cog swaps. Additionally, we could see the new GTO incorporating a T-Top body style, adding a touch of retro flair while enhancing the open-air driving experience.

While this rendering is purely speculative, it’s still an interesting thing to think about. Let us know what you think about our modern Pontiac GTO by voting in the poll, and as always, make sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more Pontiac GTO news, Pontiac news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

  1. Not crazy about the rear end, but do like it overall. Whether or not Pontiac comes back (I hope they do) GM would be well served to add some excitement (We Build Excitement!) into their lineup. Their lineup is saturated with crossovers of different sizes (many with very small motors). Kinda boring…

    1. Here’s my thoughts: it’s a bmw m2 at the front and a 2010 Camaro at the back but I’m picking up the “child with a swimsuit that’s a little too big getting out of a pool” vibe

  2. It looks like a BMW and a Camaro had a child. It’s awful.

    1. Love the front and sides. The rear fascia detracts. As a proud owner of a 06 GTO I always thought GM screwed up by not name plating Buick for Asia and then retuning and badging Pontiac for North America.

    2. Mixed with a GT-R and a Kia Stinger

    3. >>> THE REASON WHY PONTIAC IS AN EX AND SHOULD BE KEPT RIP … because ideas like this brings nothing … not saying the chevrolet and cadillac cars in market are beauties, no they are not, totally no… but there is no more place in world for pontiac

  3. Wait, but, but, but, don’t modern rendering of “coupes” have 4 doors? Asking for a friend.

    1. @Davy E Ginn, coupe has more to do with roofline (smooth slope to tail with little or no 3rd box) and cabin size. Traditionally, coupes are 2-doors, but recently some manufacturers have made 4-door “coupes” which have a similar sloping roofline

  4. Seriously?
    That’s horrible.
Suggesting this is more proof your automotive “skill set” is in other areas…

  5. This is terrible. Who did this? The Australian rebadged Holden looked more like a GTO than this abomination.

  6. Sorry, but just no. Front end looks like a BMW 3. Between the wheels looks like BMW 4. Rear end looks like a Camaro that backed into a wall. Good idea, bad execution.

    1. Just no. I’d rather not see it come back if it looked like that. That would sell poorly.

  7. Please stop doing renders.

  8. Better than what GM is currently doing: Nothing.

  9. The rear end looks like the 2006 Holden GTO, thanks but NO thanks, I will stick with my ’67 GTO, Lemans and Tempest Custom. I also have a 2009 G8 GXP 6 speed,

  10. The Pontiac Sunfire (G5) would have been a more likely candidate for this look. The GTO should have taken a far more upscale approach in design from the Pontiac Bonneville with just 2 doors.

  19. This is a car I would buy. A SUV or a crossover, never.

  20. Wtf is that. The front looks like a bmw and the back looks like a gtr and a Camero, but only the fugly parts of each

  21. How about a louvered rear window… we should have the tech ability now no? Uniquely set in a an inch or two from the surface… I like the seamless front and rear side windows👍🏻
Seems like it’s hard to get a stylish rear… but I hope the orange signals make it in… I did like the throwback concept detail with a slightly wrapping around the corner rear lights to be visible from the side… with a good led housing a matted emission is pretty sharp😎

  30. No, just no. Looks too much like a BMW M series coupe. Any new updated Pontiac GTO should be a midsized RWD sports coupe that is dramatically styled in the traditional GM way, it should not look like something from Europe.

    Reply
  31. so it’s a BMW 2 series with GM stuff photoshopped onto it and not a full render.

  32. If you wish to doodle on your digital canvas, why not bring back the retro styling of the 60’s GTO, like Chrysler and Ford did. This is nothing more than a Holden, which did nothing for the GTO legacy. I own a 65 GTO, one of three I have owned. It has uniquely distinctive styling and power that your clown car will never have. Just stop trying.

  34. I obviously love the idea of a Pontiac comeback. But this particular rendering looks like a BMW Z4.

  35. Fugly, but at least you started with a BMW which is who Pontiac aped for awhile. Pontiac: The Brand the Time Forgot…..but for some reason people on the ‘Net can’t. It’s not like they made great performance cars, they made pricier Chevrolets with stiffer shocks and enough body cladding to shame a crossover. Leave Pontiac in peace. It was fun while it lasted but it’s been gone for 14 years, let it lie. Don’t understand the sudden resurgence, where was the love when they were here? For all the people bemoaning the loss of Pontiac that don’t own one or maybe even NEVER owned one, shut it. You should’ve bought one when they were around and maybe they’d still be around. This air of grandeur that surrounds it strikes me as odd, they weren’t any more performance oriented than Chevy was at the time.

  45. You’re going to make it a GTO don’t make it something that’s a Chevy God that’s just ruins the GTO. Do a brand new car like they did for the 2004 to 2006 models. Don’t give it the vet engine build it from scratch. Make it truly a GTO. 6 l 6 2 l. Something that puts out I don’t know 580 to 650 horsepower. Make it affordable for everyone

  49. If you want to sell more than you can make try giving it a modern 1966/1967 GTO look, put technology in it with lots of gauges and some horse power (the corvette 6.2 LS3 or better). Oh, and did I mention handling, it needs to have a balanced drift around curves. Last thing… if it sounds like a corvette when you put your foot in it I will buy one!
    Thanks,
