In the years immediately following the COVID-19 pandemic, prices for the Chevy SS on the used market surged to all-new heights. Previously considered an affordable, understated, fun, V8-powered sedan with rear-wheel drive and all the trimmings, the Chevy SS was suddenly out of reach for the average enthusiast. Now, however, it appears as though the situation is finally reversing as the Chevy SS market cools.
Looking at the numbers, it appears as though the surge in prices began around September of the 2021 calendar, at which time a stock Chevy SS from the 2017 model year with a scant 650 miles on the clock sold on Bring A Trailer for a whopping $61,000. For a couple of years after that, a handful of clean SS models sold on the Bring A Trailer auction site for more than $50,000.
Now, however, it looks like the Chevrolet SS market is cooling down, and fast, with the rapid fall in prices for the V8 sedan coinciding with falling prices across the used market. For example, an auction on Bring A Trailer for a SS with 2,300 miles on it just wrapped up with a high bid of $40,000. Additionally, a Chevrolet SS with 2,140 miles on it sold for $38,500 at a Mecum Auctions event in May of 2024. Not only that, but with the exception of a unique supercharged example, Cars and Bids has yet to sell a Chevy SS for more than $40,000 this year – and that includes the coveted manual configuration.
As a reminder, the Chevrolet SS was essentially a rebadged Holden VF Commodore, equipped with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LS3 gasoline engine and rated at 415 horsepower. Standout features include Brembo brakes and magnetic suspension components, blessing the relatively innocuous-looking four-door with impressive performance right out of the box.
With prices stabilizing, it could be the perfect time to snag this sleeper sedan.

its because of the CT5-V most people would rather take their money and buy that.
Yeah people would rather spend 120k on a CT5 Blackwing instead of 40k for an SS. Honestly blackwing is overrated. Only reason people rep it in every comment section is because it’s the last American v8 manual. The new model caddy V is nothing to look at its quite hideous in caddy fashion. I’d take either model Hellcat or GT500 anyday over the caddy for the same money.
last americav v8 manual?
have u checked ford mustang?
I think what Matthew N meant was the last American V8 that anyone would want to be seen in.
Friend bought a black one new, but said many people asked if it was a Malibu. Took my college son & I for a ride & scared me to death. It would fly & really held the road. Another under marketed, under appreciated car from Chevrolet.
Interesting
Oh good, they’re finally back down to sticker? I bought a manual 2017 in 2017 for $39,900 at the ‘20% off end of the year’ sale. The fact that they’re still bringing this kind of money – even for the earlier ones without mag ride – is incredible.
That said, the SS was made like it was disposable. The windshield chipped if you looked at it funny and the paint was thinner than BMW’s and twice as soft. I would have kept mine but even with a wrap, there was no way it was going to cosmetically survive any regular use.
It also was a pontiac g8 gxp.
4.5 years later and we still have a useful tool trying to continue the lie of a COVID-19 pandemic. I can’t believe I have to state this – as it should be clear to it all that this was a good fairytale and nothing more. THERE WAS NOTHING TO BE CONCERNED WITH! Let me be clear – there was NO pandemic, there was NO novel new pathogen, and there is not a going forward virus to be concerned with. All of COVID was a 100% lie. The goal was to make humanity to take a dangerous and deadly DNA viral vector platform gene-based injection. There is no evidence anywhere of “something new that required attention”. The notion that something had spread during the “pandemic phase” was not driven by person-to-person pathogenic spread but by an extremely rapid ramp-up of PCR testing finding increasing numbers of “positive cases”. The best way of insulating us from these is to show that the pandemic was, essentially, a conjuring trick – once the methods of the magicians are revealed, the power of the illusion is lost forever. All one has to do is ask oneself why after 4.5 year of the COVID narrative is there still not a diagnostic test for the purported virus. The answer of course is that the is no such virus. Many benefited financially, politically and in other ways from the pandemic narrative. Do not trust people that discuss COVID as a new disease, a disease that needs to be dealt with, or push any lies surrounding around the psyop. Quit allowing the lie to linger. Fight the lie every single time it is presented.
ITM, Champ. Thank you for your courage.
What did people need control from? Why did they need to put the fear in us then? Nobody had a problem taking stimulus checks. Nobody had a problem paying high prices for housing and cars, or selling their houses or cars while the boom lasted. Not even sure why someone went on on a rant about Covid in the first place… this is about a low volume car GM produced that sky rocketed in price like everything else and is now finally starting to fall back down, for now.
Champ is saying what noone else will the truth.
How do you control a mass of people???? FEAR!!!!
Please share your qualifications. Your statements suggest you have high level expert status. PhD in epidemiology? Virology? Human pathology? Are you a research scientist? Are you even remotely capable of analyzing or critiquing the data you reference?
Or are you just a typical conspiracy theorist spreading your emotion derived opinions?
I lost two good friends to this “fake disease.” One of them was a denier like you. Sadly, he paid the ultimate price for believing the misinformation spread by others like you.
What about the parts? Holden doesn’t produce these anymore.
Parts probably will be an issue just like the G8 and the GTO. There is barely anything new left and anything used could be confused for new based on the pricing. I have a 2004 GTO that I bought brand new and it is a garage queen for the most part. Sneeze or fart on it and it will be totaled. Seriously, I have agreed value collectors insurance on it, so I will be covered if it gets totaled.
Parts availability is likely an issue. This has been a problem with the GTO.
I’ve had Covid or whatever it’s called 5 times. All the shots being careful. This last bought sent me to the ER. Not fun.
I had it once and it was more or less like having a regular cold. However, I know of several that got it and ended up in the hospital. I also know a few that died from it and some were nonbelievers. To each his or her own. Been an uptick in Covid cases in my area lately. It isn’t over with and it isn’t going away.
Where are these “deals”? Everything I’m seeing is $40k and up with 30K miles or less on them whether it’s from a dealer or an individual.
