While Ford dominated both races in the Australian Supercars Championship Sydney SuperNight on July 20th and 21st, 2024, the Chevy Camaro racers tried in vain to catch them. In fact, most of the frontrunners were Fords, not Chevys, despite the fact that The Bow Tie accounted for most of the entry list in Sydney.
In Race 15 on Saturday night, the best Chevy racer finished sixth amongst a sea of Ford Mustang GT competitors. Will Brown, driver of the No. 87 Camaro, managed to overtake Cam Waters’ No. 06 Mustang in the closing laps, but still finished outside the top five as his race car just didn’t have the speed to go toe-to-toe with the Fords.
Two other Chevy racers tangled during the race. Broc Feeney sent his No. 88 Camaro through Turn 5 on Lap 28, sending the No. 20 Camaro of David Reynolds for a spin and relegating him to a 17th-place finish. Meanwhile, an all-Ford top five crossed the line ahead of Brown, headed by the No. 25 Mustang of Chaz Mostert.
Race 16 was more of the same for The Bow Tie. While Brown put forth a monumental effort to reel in the Fords of Mostert and Waters, he was not able to complete the pass. Interestingly, Mostert elected to utilize a two-stop strategy as opposed to Brown’s single-stop plan, and while this put Mostert behind in terms of speed, Brown ultimately fell as he battled older tires.
Chaz makes another move, this time, on the championship leader!

He finished third, following winner Mostert and second-place Waters across the stripe. The rest of the top six finishers belonged to the Ford camp, followed by the No. 01 Camaro of Brodie Kostecki, the No. 10 Camaro of Nick Percat, and the No. 31 Camaro of James Golding in seventh, eighth, and ninth.
Mostert is currently second in the overall points standings, tailing Brown by 105 points. Feeney is currently third.

You failed to mention that this new Gen 111 category in Oz had the exact same specifications and build requirements for both brands and the Chevrolet Camaro crushed the the Brumby on track. Since then the Plough Horse teams have whinged and threatened SO MUCH to pull out of the series due to Embarrassment that they were given EXTRA OVER Iincentives to help the Brumby become competitive and stop the whinging and threats of pulling out of the series. Now they have been given SO MUCH EXTRA they are starting to clean up in the last 2 rounds of the series. So it’s a Disgusting look for V8 Supercars here in Oz that they caved in to the Threats from the Brumby Teams and Ford head office in the US. They hated being Embarrassed by the Chevrolet.
These are not “GT3” cars, they are “Gen (Generation) 3 Supercars”, a unique Australian formula.
I do enjoy your daily emails, & it’s good that you put up some “Aussie” stuff.
