GM has issued a service update for certain units of the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 that may have been produced with damaged intermediate-shaft boots, with a fix now available for this issue.
Service Update N242440310 applies to an unknown number of 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 units. However, the number of trucks involved is likely very small, and may still be in transit or dealership inventory.
Affected 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 pickups may have an intermediate steering shaft that came from the factory with a boot that has damage to it, in the form of a split or hole. Dealership service personnel are instructed to apply the available fix to any affected Silverado pickups brought to the dealership for any reason, or that are located in the dealership’s inventory.
Once an inspection has determined damage is present, the remedy is to replace the Intermediate Steering Shaft with a new, intact component. The I-shaft parts are in limited supply, so they should not be ordered as shelf stock. Inspection requires about 10 minutes while replacement takes slightly more than an hour. The remedy is available until the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period of the 2024 Chevy Silverado ends.
As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 introduced several changes from the previous model year. These include adding availability of the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine to the Chevy Silverado ZR2 trim, and giving TurboMax branding to the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. Additionally, the Midnight Edition Package can now be optioned on the High Country trim in addition to the Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss.
Under the hood, the Silverado 1500 may be motivated by the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine developing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine providing 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
The GM T1 platform underpins the 2024 Silverado 1500, while production takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, the GM Oshawa plant in Canada, and the GM Silao plant in Mexico.

The QUALITY is so POOR yes POOR 👎
I love my 2012 Silverado that I bought new. Never been back to the dealer except for the airbag recall. It has 97k miles and it still looks and runs like new. I think I will keep it for a while longer. Maybe I will keep it for my 12 year old grandson.
