NASCAR Chevy Drivers Take Each Other Out At Nashville: Video

A pair of NASCAR Chevy drivers had a dustup that might’ve cost The Bow Tie Brand a win at Nashville Superspeedway on June 30th, 2024. In a chaotic race that saw five Overtime finishes, Kyle Larson, driver of the No. 5 Chevy Camaro ZL1, and Ross Chastain, driver of the No. 1 Camaro, made contact, punting the latter into the wall and killing his race car, while Larson went on to finish eighth.

On the first Overtime restart, Larson started behind race leader Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 11 Toyota TRD Camry, with Chastain on the front row to his outside. Larson sent his race car after Hamlin when the race went green, wearing out Hamlin’s rear bumper, but failed to account for Chastain, who had cut down the track. The two NASCAR Chevy racers hit; Chastain backed hard into the wall and went spinning into the pack, collecting several other cars, including the No. 8 Camaro of Kyle Busch.

“I just hung on the 11’s [Hamlin’s] right rear, got a good start, and was turned around backwards,” Chastain said after the race. “I didn’t see what happened… it’s so good to be leading laps, fighting the guys that had been running up front all day and all night.”

Larson admitted that his miscalculation resulted in unintentionally taking out Chastain, who wound up 33rd.

“Yeah, I was with Denny, Denny on the front, and I was just going to try to wash him – get into him, to wash him off the bottom, to get myself some clean air,” Larson said. “I just ran in really deep, got really tight and drove into Ross. So yeah, hate that, for sure.”

Busch, meanwhile, was taken out from fourth place when Chastain struck him. NASCAR, interestingly, allowed him to have his spot back on the next restart. He was subsequently passed by over a dozen cars as he plummeted through the field. He finished 27th.

Up front, Joey Logano’s No. 22 Ford Mustang Dark Horse managed to save enough fuel to win.
