When most folks think back on the Geo brand, they most likely picture the Metro or Tracker, two of Geo’s more popular and memorable offerings in their own ways. However, did you know that there were actually five products in the Geo stable? In fact, one of these five was a sporty two-door coupe named the Geo Storm, and today, we’re taking a closer look at a 1992 example that’s currently up for grabs.
Listed for auction on Cars & Bids, this mint-condition 1992 Geo Storm GSi appears as though it rolled off the assembly line just last week. Additional benefits include an accident-free Carfax report and a clean Arizona title.
Perhaps the most notable aspect of this particular unit is the striking paint job, as the Flash Yellow hue is quite difficult to miss. Other notable goodies include 15-inch wheels, fog lights, and a sporty rear spoiler.
Moving on to the interior, the cabin is adorned in gray cloth upholstery, while occupants are greeted by an AM/FM/cassette stereo system and manually-operated windows.
Under the hood, this 1992 Geo Storm GSi is powered by a naturally aspirated 1.8L I4 gasoline engine, rated at 140 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. This output is directed to the front wheels by way of a five-speed manual transmission.
Interestingly, this Storm actually boasts a few upgrades as well, including a K&N air filter, magnetic oil drain plug, rear disc brake conversion, and Pioneer speaker setup.
Finally, while this example is certainly in great condition, it isn’t infallible. That being said, the seller notes that the exterior has some chips, dings, and scratches, there’s a tear on the dashboard, and that the driver’s door catch needs to be repaired.
With roughly 40,000 miles on the odometer, what do you think, dear reader? Could you see yourself splurging for this 90s-era sporty coupe, or would you rather keep your hard-earned cash for another 90s vehicle? In the 1990s, GEO was GM’s import division. Today gm’s import division is called Buick.
And in the 1970s, GM’s import division was also Buick…. So what?
No, the import Division was Opel sold through Buick dealers. All buicks in the 1970s were built in the US and perhaps a few in Canada.
I’d take it over an EV. You could drive for days in a Geo Storm.
I prefer the Isuzu Impulse RS version of this platform, with the turbo and AWD. Still, a bright yellow Storm may be fun for a very reasonable price!
In todays culture the 5 speed manual is an anti-theft device 😃
How right you are.
I had one, it was a fun car that made you feel like going 65mph while barely getting to 40. Space for you, a partner and groceries, the back seat was even less useful than a current Camaro but it looked cool. I would love to have this one to scoot around
I had one and I remember driving on the freeway in the summer and having to turn off the air conditioning in order to pass a car. I’d say a hard NO on this deal.
You likely had the base SOHC version that sported a whopping 95 hp.
I remember driving one of those as a loaner for a few weeks and just as you say it was terribly underpowered. It also got amazingly poor fuel economy because you had to push it hard to keep up with traffic plus the engine was loud and trashy sounding.. Easily the worst Japanese product (Izuzu) I’ve ever driven.
Does it have AC?
There were some pretty cool affordable FWD sport coupes around this time- the Ford Probe, Dodge Daytona, Eagle Talon, Plymouth Laser. Now an “entry level” American sport coupe is down to a $35,000 Mustang. I wonder how many young people would be attracted to an affordable sport coupe these days?
