Having skipped the 1983 model year, the Chevy Corvette was all new for 1984, with only the Cross Fire Injection Small Block carried over from 1982. The motoring press was impressed with the sleek new design, the extraordinary handling with transverse leaf springs utilized in both front and rear suspensions, better ground clearance than the previous Corvette, but with a lower overall height, and an improved center of gravity. The instruments were fully digital with an LCD display, the seats were much more supportive yet comfortable, and a functioning rear hatch (at the time, the largest piece of compound glass ever installed on an American car) gave access to a sizable cargo area. The windshield had an aggressive 64-degree rake. Transmission choices were either a four-speed automatic or a four-plus-three-speed Doug Nash-designed overdrive manual.
The 1985 Chevy Corvette received a brand-new, L98 Tuned Port Injection engine that made 230 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque versus 205 horsepower and 290 pound-feet for the 1984 Cross Fire engine. Softer spring rates resulted in a more compliant ride, and the Corvette was named one of Car and Driver Magazine’s 10 Best, as well as America’s Fastest Production Car at 150 mph.
For 1986, the Chevy Corvette was more refined, slightly more powerful, and a convertible Corvette was again available for the first time since 1975. Anti-lock brakes became standard equipment in 1986, as did the center high-mounted stop light, AKA third brake light. The digital dash had a slightly different angle to help reduce daytime glare.
Our feature 1986 Chevy Corvette coupe is finished in Silver Beige Metallic over Medium Brown Metallic, one of only 1,014 in that color combo. It has been driven just 18,500 miles from new. It is powered by its original L98 backed by a four-speed automatic transmission. It is equipped with a Bronze leather interior, air conditioning, cruise control, tilt-telescopic steering, power locks, power windows, and dual roof panels. Included in the sale are all owners’ manuals and a shop manual.
This stunning Chevy Corvette coupe is currently being auctioned on Hagerty Marketplace with the sale concluding Tuesday, August 6th.

I believe this is a Malcom Konner addition car. At one time his dealership in Paramus, NJ was the biggest seller of corvettes in the US. He would organize rallies to the factory and other road trips from what I read. Sadly he passed and the dealership was sold and renamed Paramus Chevrolet
Kurt, you said it! Malcom Konner was definitely a powerhouse Corvette dealer, back in the day! This C4 isn’t one of those Malcom Konner Commemorative Editions, though. Those 50 special editions were finished in Silver Beige over Black with a Graphite leather interior (all were also coupes). There were some free-flow options available (automatic or manual, Z51 or non-Z51). One of these cars was actually converted to the first Callaway Twin-Turbo! Regardless, the ’86 featured here is a beautiful C4!
It’s funny watching an older white hair trying to get in and out of their corvette. It’s not an old man car. Those are called Cadillac.
How do I bid on it….none of the embedded links take you to the auction site?
Karrpilot, at 77 getting in and out of my 23 C8 has become a religious experience! As well as Yoga/and concentration, But sooo worth the effort and it does help my agility and range of motion as well cracking up people like yourself.
As an official old man (73), I laugh at comments from Karrpilot and others. My C8 Z06 is not my daily driver and getting in and out is a small price to pay for such an excellent drive experience. I’m looking forward to my time at Spring Mountain later this year, and hope that younger drivers/owners have a little more respect for those of us that have supported Corvette for so many years. As long as I can drive, I will continue to purchase the next generation of Corvette. I look forward to a C8 ZR1 in my garage.
Get a C5 as it was easier to get in and out. stiffer with no sag in middle and faster.
I still easily get in/out of my’85 coupe @ 79.
and I drive it every summer with 215,0000 on it.
