As recent events no doubt indicate, there’s a lot that goes into protecting the President of the United States. That includes protection on the move, with the Commander in Chief provided transportation via an upgraded Cadillac limousine known as The Beast. Now, Jay Leno is getting up close and personal with The Beast in the following episode of Jay Leno’s Garage.
The video clocks in a little over 26 minutes, and features commentary by Secret Service members Jay Nasworthy and Steve Abel, who provide insights into the limo’s features and history.
Although The Beast resembles a Cadillac, the vehicle is heavily upgraded, with a long list of specialized equipment onboard to keep passengers safe. Several examples of The Beast travel around the world with the President, while new versions are typically introduced every eight years. The development of each limo involves top-secret clearances and several years of planning and construction.
The vehicle is heavily armored, with run-flat tires and an array of advanced security measures. It incorporates an advanced air filtration system and a secure communication system. Despite its security features, The Beast also incorporates several standard GM components to manage costs and streamline maintenance.
While the Secret Service members are understandably tight-lipped about the specifics, the agents do tell Jay that the wood surrounding the presidential seal inside the limo comes from a tree planted by George Washington.
To ensure the limo remains operational, it’s indicated that Secret Service mechanics travel with The Beast. Follow-up vehicles carry spare parts and support personnel, ready to address any issues on the go.
Driving The Beast requires Secret Service members to undergo rigorous training, including high-speed driving courses, to ensure they can handle any situation that arises while transporting the President.

Hopefully the next Cadillac Jay features will be the Celestiq.
I’d have loved to see the inside of the beast. Kinda bland just looking at the exterior and not talking about too much else because [REDACTED].
I believe the 57 Caddy first went on sale in September 1956 – Beautiful Machine !
Even though it was sold for under $4,000 dollars, only the rich could afford this car
back then !
HAS GM EVER CREATED A REPLICA OF THE BEAST CAR FOR ANYONE NOT US PRESIDENT? 😀
