A recent road cam video has gone viral, capturing a dramatic collision between a Hyundai Veloster and a Chevy Equinox on the highway after a last-second lane change by the Hyundai.
The incident took place in Washington D.C. near the I-695 to I-295 interchange, and the video, which is less than 30 seconds long, shows both the crash and the immediate aftermath.
In the video, a red Hyundai Veloster attempts a last-minute lane change as the two highways split. The Veloster is seen crossing a set of solid white lines directly in front of the barrier that divides the two highways. Unfortunately, the driver behind the wheel of the red Veloster fails to notice a silver Chevy Equinox in the adjacent lane, and the Equinox driver also appears to be unaware of the Hyundai’s sudden approach from their right.
As the two vehicles converge, the Hyundai Veloster clips the tires of the Chevy Equinox, causing the crossover to tilt up onto two wheels. The collision sends both vehicles ricocheting between lanes, resulting in visible damage to both cars.
Another view in the video shows a wider angle, where the red Veloster is seen drifting into the left lane directly in front of the Chevy Equinox. Other drivers can be seen hitting their brakes to avoid the wreck as the two cars come to a stop on the busy highway.
Later in the video, the aftermath of the collision shows a long line of traffic backed up with police on the scene. The Chevy Equinox and Hyundai Veloster are pulled over to the side, and there is a flat-bed tow truck parked nearby, ready to remove the damaged vehicles.
As commenters point out, the driver in the Hyundai Veloster seems ultimately at fault for the risky lane change, and should have continued with the error in taking the wrong highway and looped back around, rather than endanger themselves and other drivers.

Hyundai owners betray the U.S. by not buying domestic vehicles.
I noticed NO attempt by the Equinox to swerve nor brake prior to actually making contact with the veloster. Seems like neither driver was paying attention too closely, because the Equinox had room and time to avoid the collision from what I saw… although they would have probably wrecked anyway because they’d have been startled and most likely overreacted and caused themselves to lose control and crash. I see LOTS of you tube videos showing people crashing themselves by trying to avoid someone else’s crappy driving, or something in the road. People are more worried about their cell phone than paying attention and controlling the 70+ mph 4,000 pound (or more) weapon with a steering wheel they’re supposed to be. Colorado recently passed a law making it illegal to use a cellphone while driving… let’s see how well that gets enforced! I have a feeling it’ll be about as well enforced as the “illegal to drive in the left lane unless actively passing “ law, which sheriffs and state patrol do quite often as I’ve captured on dash cam.
Exactly my thoughts. The Hyundai driver was certainly in the wrong, but the Equinox driver was clueless. The fact that they were camping out in the far right lane which should be for exiting and entering shows they were driving in a fog.. It drives me crazy when trying to merge onto the freeways and you have all the slow breathers clogging up the far right.
Half the people in Colorado are driving around high while on cell phone every day.
This has happened to me 3 times lucky no accident no one looks just point the car and go. i’d love to be driving a paramount marauder and just drive right over top of these idiots. WAKE UP PEOPLE!
