GM Junkers Shine During 2024 Glacier View 4th Of July Car Launch: Video

Everyone has their own idea of fun when it comes to celebrating the Fourth of July. While most folks enjoy firing up the grill, lighting a sparkler or two, and watching the fireworks, the festivities can be a little bit different in Alaska. Up there, throngs of people will turn out to watch old junker cars fly down a massive cliff, and that includes a variety of GM vehicles, as seen in the following video.

The video is a little over 41 minutes long and was recently posted by the 1320 Video YouTube channel. The event, held at Glacier View River Retreat in Alaska, is an annual Fourth of July celebration where participants launch various cars off a 300-foot cliff – you know, for fun. The spectacle attracts a large crowd and features a wide array of vehicles, from sedans and buses, to creatively modified cars with unique themes. The event includes two launching ramps: a rail ramp and a “free ramp,” which send the cars hurtling down the cliff, often resulting in dramatic crashes and significant vehicle destruction.

The event is marked by a festive atmosphere with a smattering of patriotic elements, including a national anthem performance and even a Coast Guard flyover in a C130. Additionally, the organizers and participants show off their creativity with various car modifications and thematic decorations.

Of course, several GM vehicles take part of the event. In the video, we see a GMC Sonoma pickup, a Chevy Venture minivan, a ’90s GM pickup truck that looks like it’s held together with duct tape, and even a Chevy Corvette from Eugene, Oregon.

If you’re into wanton destruction and crazy events, then this video is a fun one to watch, with shots covering the launch ramps, the bottom of the cliff, and even GoPro footage from inside some of the pulverized vehicles as they sent off the cliff.
