In a new five-minute video from Chevrolet, Chevy’s Director of Advertising and Marketing for Cars and SUVs, Brad Franz, discusses the all-new 2024 Chevy Traverse with Chief Engineer for Traverse, Jeffrey MacDonald. The video focuses on the off-road-oriented Traverse Z71, a new addition for the 2024 model year. In the video, Franz and MacDonald provide an overview of the Traverse Z71’s standout features, providing insight into what makes the 2024 Chevy Traverse Z71 stand out from the rest of the lineup.
The discussion begins with the design elements of the 2024 Traverse Z71, which exhibits a more rugged, truck-like attitude. Highlights include raised suspension and a taller stance, which enhances off-road capabilities, combining with Hydraulic Rebound Control and 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires for confidence during off-road adventures. Further off-roading features include a skid plate and functional tow hooks, as well as a specialized Terrain driving mode.
One major change for the 2024 model year is addition of the standard turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine, which delivers 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque. Also notable is the twin-clutch all-wheel drive system, which enhances traction through more-accurate power distribution.
Towing capacity is another major feature that’s highlighted, with the 2024 Chevy Traverse Z71 capable of towing up of up to 5,000 pounds, facilitated by a heavy-duty cooling package and a comprehensive suite of trailering accessories.
As GM Authority has covered previously, the 2024 Traverse Z71 is the first unibody vehicle to wear a Z71 badge. Historically, Chevy’s Z71 lineup has consisted solely of body-on-frame vehicles, such as the Chevy Silverado, Chevy Colorado, and Chevy Tahoe, among others, making the 2024 Chevy Traverse Z71 a significant expansion of Chevrolet’s off-roading lineup.

As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Traverse rides on the GM C1 platform, with production taking place at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan.

18” tires! Wow that’s the same size as my lawn mower 🤣🤣🤣 GMA, please edit your articles before posting. This ain’t twitter. I know that product leads tend to be idiots who don’t know anything about their product,( to the point of getting the power figures wrong on an edited video 🤪) but you can at least correct that.
When is Chevrolet going to address and fix the problems with the headrests on the 3rd roll seats????? Second row of seats can not be used,if 3rd row is down.
I bought a 2024 Traverse 3 weeks ago and it has been in the shop since I bought it. I am very disappointed that at first the mechanics could not find the problem then they had to tow it a second time they said it is a fuse but I have only had pocession of it for a few days and two of them were having it towed to the dealer. They say something is draining the battery every night and I do not have possession of
Can I please have my 2024 Traverse Z71 without that stupid and pathetic four cylinder engine?!! Hard to believe that a V6 wasn’t even offered as an optional purchase choice! Who on earth makes these ridiculous decisions at GM?
No, because that is a step backwards. You old guys and your dated thinking just want to make things worse and not progress forward. This 2.5 is more powerful with a ton more torque, drives much better, gets better mph and is faster and more reliable (the 2.5 is based on the 2.7 which was one of the most difficult engines to kill in torture testing per engineers and the 2.7 has been bullet proof for the most part since its inception). No one wants a naturally aspirated V6 in something designed to carry weight. This decision was done based on interviews of people who drove them asking what they needed to improve on, and lack of low end torque and power to keep it from downshifting as a light headwind or just looking at a hill was tops. Then they brought in competitor owners in focus groups, it was done for a reason and methodically. So no, your advice would lead to more poor reviews and worse sales. Hard pass…
TMI, your thoughts on below statement, about the hassle & cost of Turbo replacement?
“I was just exploring the 2025 Ford Explorer. Considering the improved size of the Traverse, if they offered a V6, they wouldn’t be able to keep it on the shelf. It probably would be selling more than the KIA Telluride, the Ford Explorer, and provably contend neck to neck with the Toyota Grand Highlander and Honda Pilot.
They dropped the ball on this one. Seriously missed opportunity.
I test drove the 2024 Chevy Traverse 2 weeks ago. Good looking vehicle and sits well, but it whines and feels like it’s struggling with 4-cylinder. I also read nightmares of Turbo not being able to support the overall load, eventually leading to Turbo failures some few 1000s of miles in and gently used.”
3.6 high feature V6 has more torque than any V6 in its class, Including the larger 3.8 Nissan frontier engine anf the GM engine has peak torque at 2800 rpm. Idk what your talking about.
I have the new colorado with the 2.7Turbo. My 430ft-lbs of torque make my dad’s 5.3l silverado feel like weak and slow slug. My truck doesn’t struggle, and climbes West Virginia mountains with ease. If this 2.5turbo traverse behaves similar to my colorado then it will be my wife’s next SUV. The NA V6s is dead, wouldn’t touch it with a stick. NA V8s are close to dead. If it doesn’t have a turbo, specifically modern dual volute turbos, then I don’t want it.
30mm lift on the Z71? Oh boy, look out Rubicon!
Bought 2024 Chevy Traverse Z71 2 two weeks ago. Bought it on Saturday, Took it back on Monday for water leak and check engine light. The dealer service department kept the vehicle for 4 days. They fixed the leak and determined the check engine light was from DTC P219A. Cleared the code. Picked up the vehicle on that Thursday drove it home. Check engine light came back on. Same DTC code of P219A and smell of fuel coming from the exhaust. Took the vehicle back to the dealership and it’s been there ever since. Apparently GM is aware of the code problem, but I am being told, they have no solution. So i am stuck with no vehicle. A brand new vehicle.
Will they pay for a loaner for you?…or are they giving you the option to be refunded all your money back you paid for the vehicle, so you can get another Make?
They offered a loaner. I am giving them until Tuesday to come up with a solution.
