GM Energy Live Showroom Offers Real-Time 1-On-1 Demos

GM Energy provides a range of home energy solutions for individual customers, ranging from EV chargers to keep the Cadillac Lyriq or GMC Hummer EV battery topped off to vehicle-to-home bidirectional systems or, soon, stationary storage that will make it possible to have stored electricity for emergencies or other exceptional situations.

Now, GM Energy has launched an “Energy LIVE Showroom” service that enables customers or potential customers to get a live demonstration session online with a knowledgeable home energy specialist.

GM decided last December to eliminate its GM Live showroom for its quartet of core vehicle brands – Buick Live, Cadillac Live, Chevy Live, and GMC Live – because the expense of operating them was not justified by the amount of additional revenue they were generating. Wage hikes caused by the United Auto Workers’ “Stand Up Strike” and the subsequent agreements contributed to making the showrooms unprofitable.

However, GM kept its EV Live showroom running. EV Live was launched in July 2022 to provide education and answer customers’ numerous questions about electric vehicles. As The General’s EV sales rose 42 percent in Q2 2024, the automaker likely wants to make information about EVs and related topics available to as many potential buyers as possible to encourage future sales growth.

The Energy LIVE Showroom enables people to log into a one-on-one demo of GM Energy products, with a live specialist demonstrating various technologies. The user can also ask questions about the products using either chat or a microphone, which the specialist will answer. There is also a screen-sharing function so that the customer can share their screen with the specialist (and vice versa) if desired.

Customers can either join using the buttons on the website, which will put them in a queue, or schedule a demo in advance. The demos are completely free and usually take under 20 minutes to complete.

GM Energy now offers several home charging devices, including Level 2 chargers along with the aforementioned Vehicle-to-Home setups. The General Motors subsidiary is partnered with Qmerit as the installer for its residential energy products.

GM Energy Vice President Wade Sheffer says the Qmerit partnership ensures that “more customers will have access to the extended benefits of EV technology and participate in a larger energy ecosystem.”
