Ford Capri SUV Coupe EV Unveiled For Europe With No GM Rival: Photos

Ford has unveiled the all-new Ford Capri EV, an all-electric SUV coupe destined for the European market, building on the Ford Capri nameplate with a new battery-powered variant. The Ford Capri EV will ride on the Volkswagen MEB platform, making it mechanically similar to the Volkswagen ID.4 and the European Ford Explorer EV. Notably, GM does not offer a direct competitor to this new all-electric model from one of The General’s top rivals.

Outside, the new Capri EV presents an SUV coupe body style with a low-slung roofline that lends the utility model a more elegant look. Notably, GM offers almost no SUV coupe models in its range, with the exception of the Buick Envista, which GM Authority has deemed the crossover coupe for the masses. The new Capri EV also rides on 19-inch wheels as standard, with the higher trim equipped with 20-inch alloys.

Inside, the Capri EV features keyless entry and start, heated front seats and steering wheels, and a driver’s seat massage function. The centerpiece of the dash is a tablet-style 14.6-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a wireless device charging feature. Advanced driving aids include Assisted Lane Change and Clear Exit Warning.

The Ford Capri EV is set to be available in two configurations: a single-motor RWD model and a dual-motor AWD model. Both models support DC fast charging capabilities that can recharge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in under half an hour. Both versions are also equipped with a lithium-ion NMC battery.

The single-motor RWD configuration boasts 282 horsepower and offers a range of 389 miles, accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 6.4 seconds. The dual-motor AWD version provides 335 horsepower with a range of 367 miles, plus a quicker 0-to-62 mph time of 5.3 seconds.

While pricing and availability details have yet to be announced, sales for the European market are expected to begin sometime this year. Although it is unlikely that the Ford Capri EV will be sold in the U.S., the possibility cannot be entirely ruled out.

    1. How else do think Ford will be able to claim it’s the best in class? They defined the class so narrowly that they’re the only one in it.
