The Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Polk County, Florida has recounted a dramatic incident involving a rented Chevy Camaro and a high-speed chase. The driver, a 22-year-old woman, was allegedly caught speeding at over 100 mph and subsequently fled from police, ending the chase with a crash. The driver is now in county jail facing a list of serious charges.
According to a post on X by Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, the incident occurred earlier this week on State Road 60 near Lake Wales. The Camaro, driven by the young woman with a passenger on board, was clocked at 103 mph in a 65-mph zone. During the subsequent traffic stop, the deputy on the scene said that they could detect the smell of marijuana. At that point, the driver decided to flee.
In an attempt to evade police, the driver reportedly turned off the vehicle’s lights and maneuvered through traffic. The deputy followed the Camaro onto Palm Avenue, a dead-end street. The driver then allegedly performed a U-turn and drove directly towards the patrol car, forcing the deputy to swerve.
The chase continued until the driver lost control of the Camaro at Sunset Drive. After crashing, the driver attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended by the police. Miraculously, neither the driver nor the passenger were injured in the crash.
A subsequent search revealed marijuana and drug paraphernalia, leading to additional charges. Both individuals were charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The driver also faces aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, fleeing to elude, resisting with violence, and leaving the scene of a crash.
No word on the condition of the Chevy Camaro, but by the sound of it, it’s likely toast.

What a waste of a Chevy Camaro!
She’s lucky if she even has the money to cover for the damages to the car.
