Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Chevy Tahoe and Suburban sales led their segment yet again during Q2 2024 when ranked by sales volume on a combined basis, as has been the case for over two decades. This is in spite of the Bow Tie brand’s full-size SUV duo posting a combined 20 percent decrease in sales to 36,898 units.
Individually, the regular-length Tahoe (see running Chevy Tahoe sales) remained at the top, with a 14 percent dip in sales to 25,119 units. The Ford Expedition (see running Ford Expedition sales), which includes cumulative sales of the regular-length Expedition and extended-length Expedition Max, followed with a nine percent bump to 21,747 units. As before, the Tahoe alone bested sales of both Expedition variants combined.
This time around, sales are combined for the regular-length GMC Yukon (see running GMC Yukon sales) and the extended-length Yukon XL (see running GMC Yukon XL sales), which are corporate cousins to the Tahoe and Suburban, respectively, and share the same architecture, with the GMC duo family posting a cumulative four percent dip to 21,449 units. The Jeep Wagoneer, comprised of both the regular-length Wagoneer and longer Wagoneer L (but not including the Grand Wagoneer), followed with a 107 percent leap for 16,734 deliveries. Meanwhile, the extended-length Suburban (see running Chevy Suburban sales) saw a 29 percent slide to 11,779 units. The Toyota Sequoia was next with a 33 percent upswing to 6,910 units, and the Nissan Armada finished out the list with an 18 percent slip for 4,856 deliveries.

The GM Authority Take
The Chevy Tahoe and Suburban duo continue to lead the mainstream full-size SUV segment as they have for many years. Combined with their corporate cousins, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, GM accounts for over half of all sales in this space. While competitors have previously launched new and updated models, faring better than GM’s entries so far this year, a refresh of The General’s offerings is set to launch later this year.
These updates from Chevy and GMC should boost sales and further strengthen GM’s command of the lucrative full-size SUV segment.
About Chevrolet Tahoe And Suburban
The 2024 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban arrive with just one change: The deletion of the Auburn Metallic color.
Late last year, GM unveiled the refreshed 2025 Chevy Tahoe and refreshed 2025 Chevy Suburban, showcasing new styling inside and out. It also announced a revised diesel engine option and new tech features.
The new 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine delivers more power and torque than the outgoing 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel. Design changes to the 2025 model finally make that powerplant option available on the Z71 trim level for the first time, which is incidentally the most popular trim for the full-size SUV.
Also, updated tech features include new trailering assists and the vaunted GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assistance feature. The updated duo also gets nine additional wheel combinations, including 24-inch alloy options.
The 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban will go on sale later this year.

Comments
Because many folks have finally figured out that they can’t afford $1000+ monthly payments for 72+ months.
not a huge surprise considering the refreshed 2025 models were revealed, people are probably waiting for those
literally not the case. there is no historical data for that either in previous gens. 99% of the buyers have no idea anything is changing nor care. housewives want a tahoe, husband buys them one. when husband runs out of money, sales go down.
they are just way too expensive
Then explain why the segment is flat. All that happened was gm lost share, to mainly the new wagoneer (+8000 units for quarter). The refresh should help, but I’ve seen the wagoneer several times in my area and it looks good on the outside. And Jeep has a pretty strong following. And none of the competitors including the wagoneer are less expensive. So it is not price.
The Wagoneer looks like a 4×4 hearse…..
Maybe, but 30 thousand people bought the hearse instead of a Tahoe in just the 1st 2 quarters. If they hold that rate, that is 60K units for this year. And hence the loss of market share. What is painful to gm is they must make at least 10K on each tahoe/suburban. So the profit loss is at least 1/2B dollars. That should frighten management.
Just guessing but a 100k Suburban profits closer to 35k.
That’s what I am waiting for.
Since they’re so enormously profitable , one would think that the General could afford to take a small haircut and reduce the price so that the little guy could once again be able to afford one- even a base LS model. The vehicle really hasn’t been affordable for me since my LS Yukon 4dr which I bought new in 1998.
they will hold as long as they can.
It is bad news, sorry. As I said above, unit sales for the full size are flat. The only reason anyone is going to cut prices is to steal share. I don’t think they are ready to do that yet, especially on the refresh. I’d expect some discounting on the 2024’s when the 2025’s arrive if the have any in stock. If you are serious and really want one, that is your time to jump and look around at dealerships. Especially if they have 2024’s say 3 months after the 2025’s arrive. Also just before the end of year if you live in a state where they do inventory property tax and they want stuff off the lot on Jan 1st to avoid assessment.
Alright, not what everyone wants to hear, so downvote away.
A base Yukon in 1998 was about $30k. In 2023 dollars, that’s about $58k. What do you know, a Tahoe LS is about $58k today.
Well some of us are retirees on a fixed income that hasn’t kept up with inflation. The only thing that’ll drive down prices is $5 a gallon gas which no one wants.
@jtxg
Try to find me a base yukon or tahoe on the dealers lots!?!? Also houses weren’t $400k or more, gas wasn’t $3.00 or higher, groceries weren’t through the roof, insurance wasn’t outrageous, going out to eat at a fast food/nice restaurant didn’t break the bank……should I go on?
Houses typically don’t depreciate. Could it be that you work in some capacity for GM or a dealership to defend the ever increasing prices ? I stand on my premise that the profit margins are too large on these vehicles.
They messed up the 2025 coming out. The steering is awful. It looks like all the rest of the Chevy vehicles. They made it look “feminine”. These are trucks, the steering wheels should be big, masculine with a 4 prong for comfort on long drives. The entire interior sucks, the lighting, headlights, taillights all just suck. The taillights needs to be bolder, no fog lights on a truck, people go camping in the woods and need fog lights or just driving. I live in North Florida and I own a 2010 Cadillac Escalade and I use my fog lights all the time. I wish they would bring back the shorter version of the Tahoe. I had a 2003 and 2006 and loved them both. I wished I had kept my 2006 Tahoe. These new ones are just too much and doesn’t have the features for the money you are paying. No ventilated seats in the rear, no massaging seats and if you are going to buy something ugly like this, you should have some features to compensate you for buying something like this. I will never own one. I will buy a 2024 or lower. Same with the Yukon. They have total destroyed the GMC Yukon that’s coming out in 2025. I will be shopping used for them as well. Loyal GM buyer here. GM is really closed the door on this buyer.
