Camaro SS Rides Wall, Gets Stuck On Its Side While Racing A Miata: Video

While there’s really nothing wrong with modifying your daily driver to look and perform like a race car, it’s not always the best idea to take your only form of transportation to the race track. If you truly intend to push your ride to the limit, there should be certain expectations – for example, the expectation that you may be taking your beloved vehicle home on a trailer. Unfortunately for the driver behind the wheel of this Chevy Camaro SS, that was the result after they hit the wall at the local speedway, as seen in the following video.
The video is just 14 seconds long, but that’s all the time it takes for everything to go wrong for this poor Chevy. The video was captured at Grundy County Speedway in Illinois during the Tuner Fest Drift IL event, during which competitors can go head-to-head around a paved circle track.
In this particular matchup, the Chevy Camaro was pitted against a Mazda Miata. We see the Chevy on the outside, while the purple Mazda has the inside line. As the race gets underway, we see the more powerful Chevy take an early lead, leaping ahead of the Mazda in the initial drag race. However, as soon as the first corner begins, things start to go wrong. We see the Camaro driver bury the throttle, drifting up onto the bank. However, the driver is going way too fast to make the corner, and before they realize it, they’re headed straight for the wall.
The driver tries to crank the wheel, but the Chevy Camaro has too much speed and understeers, plowing straight ahead. The car makes contact on the passenger side, going up on two wheels as the momentum carries the Chevy up onto the wall. The Chevy is pitched over onto its side, bouncing along the wall and threatening to roll. Luckily, the car stays on one side before coming to a rest.
According to social media posts, the driver was unhurt. Nevertheless, the Chevy Camaro looks like it suffered some pretty extensive damage. At the end of the day, putting it all on the line for the win is something we all dream about – just remember that dream could turn into a nightmare if you aren’t careful. ‘Didn’t look like he got loose- Just too much speed/ momentum going into the corner…
That Camaro was an LT1 not an SS. The SS has a different front end. 🙂
Wtf.. GM never accepted my order, and people are out there smashing up their camaro!!
More articles here about Camaro since it’s dead, (again, shame on gm), than when it was alive. Sad in all ways.
Ran out of talent. That’s got to hurt.
I guess the weight savings from removing the steering wheel aren’t worthwhile.
If that was the Miata, the driver would not survive. I know because I survived a crash driving a 1967 Camaro RS. Only the driver’s door was dented. That is how strong a Camaro is!
Must have owned a mustang at one point to learn those skills
A–hole
To quote Oscar Madison,’ Now it’s garbage’.
Thats a circle track dude….. you gotta turn!! Must be a drag queen!!!
It’ll buff out.
LT1 not an SS, big difference. The LT1 comes with the 6.2L engine but all the suspensions and brakes are the same as the V6. I love the SS but I would never buy an LT1, the suspensions and braking is not good enough for that amount of power. It’s like having an athlete who has huge arms but tiny legs.
