Cadillac Rivaling BMW X4 Crossover Coupe Discontinued

BMW is reportedly discontinuing the BMW X4, the German automaker’s compact luxury crossover coupe. Although BMW will continue to offer several other crossover coupe models, the discontinuation of the X4 raises questions over the sustainability of the crossover coupe segment in terms of model saturation.

The discontinuation of the BMW X4 was initially reported by Motor1, which cites company officials as providing confirmation of the X4’s eventual demise. The report does not provide a specific end date for BMW X4 production. That said, it seems unlikely at this point that the X4 will be available past the 2025 calendar year.

The decision to axe the X4 follows the successful launch of the BMW X2, the latter of which also presents a coupe-like exterior design, much like the X4. As such, the X2 effectively makes the X4 redundant in BMW’s lineup. Despite this, BMW still offers a variety of crossover coupes, with the aforementioned X2 joined by the larger X6.

For those who may be unaware, crossover coupes are essentially crossover models with a lower roofline, offering a sleeker, more elegant styling option compared to traditional crossovers. The German automakers in particular have a strong presence in the segment, while GM appears somewhat absent, especially when considering the lack of any crossover coupe model whatsoever from the Cadillac brand. That said, GM does offer the Buick Envista, which GM Authority has dubbed the “crossover coupe of the masses.” This model provides a more accessible entry into the crossover coupe market, thus appealing to a broader audience.

Still, as we look ahead, the key question remains: have we reached the peak of the crossover coupe segment? Rest assured that automakers will monitor these consumer preferences closely, especially in light of the reemerging popularity of compact sedans and hatchbacks.

  1. Where these ridiculous things head next is nowhere. They love them in Europe and hate them in the US. Which makes the Buick Envista long-term interesting.

  2. Well, in 1998 worked in Munich for BMW E46/5 3 Compact, then 2001 inside BMW FIZ doing BIW E63 for them as well as E70 further and 2004 thats all folks. Admit worked indirect for good designs of them, since 20 years only ugly cars, however they did stock from my time € 20 to € 120 and now € 88. This means they made hundred billions with the ugly cars selling for you north americans, chinese people and other countries too. This X4 is like X6 not at all ugly compared what is produced now. The future of Design BMW trying to find an again re-good design direction do not know, they are making researching and winning a real lot of money with you USA. Really do not know what north americans see really in those ugly german cars. But it is your taste. Not mine as Designer. Out of Munich since 16 years and out of BMW World since at least 20 years. If you gonna ask me if want be again explored for them in CAD and go back in Munich, the answer is really NO, a big NO. Of course in Hamburg our salaries are small, but if has a future goal, then is going to Abu Dhabi with a big sponsor behind to appreciate the warm beaches and wonderful resorts like 20 days ago we were at Park Hyatt and Emirates Palace, if there is this chance, otherwise in still cold north germany in a regular situation. But never again doing something to BMW, a company did not at all invested in us, just took our soul out.
