Cadillac Racing Salvages Decent Finish At Brazil 2024

The No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R, driven by Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn, is now the only Hypercar entry to qualify in the top four in the past three races, but the Cadillac Racing team almost didn’t have a good result to boast about in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on July 14th, 2024. Fighting back from hardship, however, the Caddy crew was able to battle back to 13th when the six-hour sprint concluded.

The No. 2 V-Series.R qualified fourth, and during his first stint, Bamber held onto that position. His time behind the wheel was uneventful, and he swapped the controls to Lynn with three hours and 55 minutes left in the race. Lynn returned to the track with fresh tires and a full tank of fuel, but just two laps after heading out, he reported a vibration.

The vibration wasn’t a symptom of anything serious, but Lynn lost valuable track position after he pulled into the pits. Running 14th, Lynn handed the No. 2 Cadillac Racing machine back to Bamber for the final hour and a half. It was a one-stop race from there, and Bamber was only able to recover to 13th of 19 entries in the Hypercar division.

The No. 8 Toyota GR010 won the race after starting second.

“We unfortunately had a problem on the pit stop where we had to come back in and reseat the right-front wheel and that took us out of contention for a good result today,” Lynn said. “That’s the margins in WEC. Any small error will cost you dearly, and unfortunately that was us today. I think we had a solid race, a solid car and good performance. It’s just a shame not to reward everyone for the efforts.”

Meanwhile, Bamber said, “We managed to fight back, have good car speed but seem to have misfortune every race. We need to work out some details, execute better so we can score some points.”

  2. Unusual that the road wheel had to be recentered. Valuable time lost.
