2025 GMC Terrain Elevation Caught Completely Uncovered: Photos

The 2025 GMC Terrain will introduce an all-new third generation for the crossover, with a long list of updates and changes set to debut. Among these will be an overhauled exterior design, an overhauled interior design, the latest tech features, and more. Last month, we saw the next-gen crossover completely uncovered in the top-spec Denali trim and again in the rugged AT4 trim. Now, we’re getting another early look at the new 2025 GMC Terrain, this time in the new Elevation trim level.
For those readers who may be unaware, the Elevation is slowly becoming the base-level trim for GMC models, as per the GMC Y-trim level strategy. Presently, the GMC Terrain doesn’t offer an Elevation trim, with the current lineup including SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali, making the 2025 GMC Terrain Elevation a brand-new addition to the lineup, one that will likely replace SLE and SLT.
The 2025 GMC Terrain Elevation prototype featured in the photos you see here is finished in silver paint and presents a mix of black accents and brightwork for the trim bits. The front end of the crossover shows off the 2025 Terrain’s revised fascia, with extended grille surrounds stretching into the corners of the bumper. The lighting clusters are also more tightly packed in the upper corners of the fascia.
At the sides, we see a set of six-spoke 17-inch wheels. The 17-inch rollers are wrapped up in Michelin Primacy All-Season tires sized at 235/65R17.
In the rear, we see slimmer taillight clusters, with thin, horizontally oriented accent lighting stretching into the hatch. Speaking of the hatch, we see a polished Terrain badge matched with a black Elevation badge. The lower bumper design was also revised to incorporate new styling elements.
Inside, the 2025 GMC Terrain will draw inspiration from the 2024 GMC Acadia. An 11-inch Driver Information Center and a vertically oriented, portrait-style central infotainment display have been spied, mirroring the Acadia’s setup.
Under the hood, the 2025 GMC Terrain is set to equip the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, with both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive set to be on offer. The updated GM D2 platform will provide the underpinnings.
Production of the 2025 Terrain is expected to begin later this year at the GM San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.

It looks nice, but that 1.5L engine just doesn’t cut it.
I wish they offered a 2.0L turbo, if they’re gonna be stingy on small engines. I figured they’re only doing 1.5L because of China and countries with stupid emissions regulations.
Costs. Lots of cars with the 1.5 globally, massive economies of scale. Acceptable performance and reliability. Right now when RAV4’s are 50-60K, GM is figuring their edge back into the hearts of the buyers who switched to Honda/toyota is lower prices in this high inflation economy. Anyone buying a Toyota doesn’t care about performance anyways.
The moment they think their loosing sales due to the small engine, they will add a bigger engine. Right now they are seeing most people wanting more power go for the Acadia anyways
RAV4 for 50-60k? Where is this? Unless you bought the rust proofing, undercoating, ceramic paint treatment, pinstripes, AND interior protection packages (all with a lifetime warranty of course) you ain’t payin’ no 50-60k for a stinkin’ RAV4. LOL!
Lol
They did. Not enough buyers bought them so they dropped it. They typical Equinox/Terrain buyer doesn’t care, doesn’t tow. The cost of the 2.0T would be built into every car regardless of how many they sold, simply to cover the production cost of the engine. Not gonna happen.
Not even close.
Nice but overpriced with the same cheap interior material. Overall the Terrain has always been overpriced vs the Nox
Vehicles look so much alike these days (with some extreme exceptions), I don’t know why the manufacturers even try to hide them.
Agreed on the 1.5L engine being a major letdown. I’ll be keeping my 2018 Terrain Diesel. Great power, INSANE fuel economy. I’ll wait until a hybrid version comes.
Do we know if these new generation are getting Super Cruise?
Handsome little SUV. Has a bit of a modern S10 stance. Those rims are reminiscent of the late 1980s S10 premium rims.
Needs the 3.0 diesel in there. Maybe on an AT4 trim?
A 1.5L Turbo Hybrid will probably satisfy most people when it comes, but until then the 2.0L Turbo should be the standard motor. Only offering a single motor, i.e. the 2.0L Turbo, simplifies manufacture, distribution, ordering, and sales while keeping sticker prices down. Turbo Hybrid motors are what more and more consumers are clamoring for and where GM should be investing money for the foreseeable future. BEVs, OTOH, are withering on the vine because, among other reasons, there is no nationwide infrastructure to reasonably support them. I don’t see that happening until 2050 and by then fuel cell vehicles may become the more attractive personal transportation solution.
Looks fine. I wouldn’t go any higher on the trim level ladder. But I still can’t stand that tablet.
I like it. I don’t know how the 1.5l will work with the larger dimensions (it was more than sufficient in the 2024 model), but everything looks good so far.
Larger dimensions, the size hasn’t changed? Are you thinking of the Acadia?
Am I wrong? The 2025 Terrain is a complete redesign along with the 2025 Equinox, which has been widened, lengthened, and raised by several inches. I presume the Terrain is going to adopt the Equinox’s changes. Examining the images the new Terrain looks taller, wider, and longer than its predecessor.
Looks sharp outside. But the touch screen is too big, and a 1.5 is shamefully too small.
Should’ve used the new 2.5 here, and kept the 3.6 in the Acadia/Traverse.
Been waiting to see this. It looks really good. I can see myself in one next time around, if the color palette is not too boring. GMC is one of the brands we sell at work, so maybe an employee discount would come my way. I am happy to see a decent looking wheel on the base trim, I would be fine with that. And wouldn’t you know, it is just as powerful as a Denali! Thanks for posting these up, GMA.
Spoke with the dealership twice and they assured me that the vehicle was delivered with out any mats and my vehicle is not the only type either the Yukon is the other one. Emailed GM directly and they passed me around to several customer associates and they more or less dismissed me???
Owned GM vehicles all my life and never had an issue. On the window sticker i payed for weather mats that were not cheap??? But no carpet Denali mat. Someone in GM made that decision I guess to save some money……..
Well, you just solved your own mystery. Your window sticker states you paid for all weather, rubber mats. You don’t get two sets of mats. If you want carpet mats, go to the parts counter and order them.
Someone, maybe a salesman, stole them out and put them in another Acadia before you bought it. Or maybe the kid that does pre-delivery inspections forgot to take them out of the plastic and put them where they belong. I would ask the dealer, but before I do, I would check GMC’s site and look at “standard features”.
Wrong !!! I just turned in a 2020 Denali and it came with all the carpet mats and I paid for weather mats on my window sticker???? And before that my 2017 came the same way ..
I didn’t ask for weather mats and I didn’t ask anyone to switch them out either. YOU SHOULD GET YOUR CARPET MATS WITH YOUR VEHICLE AND WEATHER MATS ARE EXTRA AND YOU PAY FOR THEM!!!!!
Pro Tip:
Only complain to the person who can fix the problem.
😉
2 things;
1 – this is a thread about a 2025 GMC Terrain, not your Acadia purchase.
2 – Assuming you got the floor liner package in your Acadia? Maybe read the details of the package that clearly indicates it does not come with carpet mats because, why would someone need 2 sets of mats anyway?
— Floor mats, front, carpeted (Deleted when (RIA) first and second row All-weather floor liners, LPO or (VAV) first and second row All-weather floor mats, LPO are ordered.)
— Floor mats, rear, carpeted (Deleted when (RIA) first and second row All-weather floor liners, LPO or (VAV) first and second row All-weather floor mats, LPO are ordered.)
They got the profile and rear designs perfect. Just need to tweak that front clip to remove some of the oddness, and add a hybrid offering to jump to the head of the segment
At last some decent looking base alloy wheels. Looks good otherwise. Now they just need to get either a 2.0T or hybrid option, ditch the dumb useless CVT on FWD models and offer some interior color options. This should do well
With GMC being an upscale brand, the higher trim levels of the Terrain should get the 2.0T.
A mid-40s Denali shouldn’t have the same engine as a base model Equinox, particularly when, for also mid-40s, you can probably end up with a mid-level Envision with the 2.0, or even an Avenir.
It makes zero sense from even a competition perspective within their own brands to not offer the 2.0T in the higher trims of the Terrain
Looks much better than the Equinox.
Although they now share a lot of sheet metal and look pretty much the same from the side profile.
Same doors, windows, rear hatch, and roof. With that being said I think the Terrain has a classic look that will not go out of style. The new Equinox went for the super trendy look, but imo not going to age well.
I know people have picked on the “handlebar mustache” bumper, but it’s not that bad. The front is still pretty nice, no sharp and pointy features like the ‘nox.
Looks like GM is still doing combined brake/signal lights for both Equinox and Terrain. Even with LEDs, it’s a cheap thing to do. The Japanese brands don’t cheap out like that.
Looks like the Elevation is equivalent to the SLE. I wonder if it will have packages, including exterior trim bits, wheels, and leather interior, to bring it up to the current SLT trim level? Hope so.
Handsome looking vehicle for sure, but I absolutely hate the oversized vertical tablet in the middle. Totally unnecessary and a dangerous driver distraction.
Totally agree with the many comments re too small engine choices in Gm products! After being a GM customer for 40 years I have not purchased a GM product primarily do to weak engine choices since 2016. Since that time I have had 3 Lincoln suvs and currently a 550 hp. Jaguar F-Pace!
e
Not too crazy about the grill. It looks like the losing entry of a handlebar mustache contest.
Could be a very strong class contender, but that small of a motor in that price range is a complete bust.
Not sure what they were thinking, EPA mandates?? Surely there’s a point of diminishing returns, where a tiny motor to theoretically squeeze out that last inch of fuel economy on paper really isn’t worth it.
They have to bring back the 2.0 with the towing package. I have it in my 2020 and would hesitate buying a new one because of it.
EPA it’s crap because the 2.0 gets almost the same mpg. My wife’s trailblazer get 31 and I get 29-30 with my 2.0 equinox. It’s just gm deciding what we should get, no choice’s
That’s what companies do. Why is that shocking? It has nothing to do with the EPA. The 1.5T outsold every other choice the Equinox/Terrain offered so they choice to save money/increase profit by dropping the diesel and the 2.0T.
