2025 Chevy Blazer EV PPV Offers New Universal Vehicle Module

The Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) variant of the 2025 Chevy Blazer EV now gets the Universal Vehicle Module (RPO code KGU) as a standard feature, enabling new software features for upfitters looking to add a range of functions to the Chevy Blazer EV PPV.

The Universal Vehicle Module (UVM) uses SAE J1939 protocols to communicate over the open CAN system. This feature spotlight is taking a closer look at what this means for 2025 Chevy Blazer EV PPV users.

The CAN or Controller Area Network is used for commercial and government vehicle communications and similar functions. The 2025 Chevy Blazer EV PPV gets ten switchable inputs/outputs and a Custom Configuration Tool for software related to various upfitted equipment. It can be used at multiple levels, from individual vehicles up to fleets.

The Auto Vehicle Start, Shutdown Inhibit, Fast Idle and Snow Plow features are all said to be enabled with the new Universal Vehicle Module included in the 2025 Chevy Blazer EV PPV. The manual for the PPV also notes the use of the UVM for police upfits, such as the “underhood electrical center momentary start up feature to control the HVAC climate system for K9 vehicles.”

The UVM includes the module itself, a customer interface harness and instructions.

As for motivation, the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV PPV utilizes GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motor technologies for motivation that develop 498 horsepower and 571 pound-feet of torque. The Blazer EV PPV is able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.17 seconds and reach a top speed of 130 mph, and GM says it’s the company’s quickest-ever police package offered.

Other features of the PPV package include features intended for the vehicle’s likely pursuit duties. For the Chevy Blazer EV PPV, these include a special speedometer, a reinforced suspension, protective skid plates, 20-inch steel wheels wrapped in V-rated 265/55R20 Firestone Firehawk Pursuit tires as well as tough six-piston Brembo brakes.

Production of the 2025 Chevy Blazer EV has been delayed and is now expected to kick off on Monday, August 5th, 2024. The crossover is underpinned by the GM BEV3 platform that also provides the bones for the Cadillac Lyriq and Chevy Equinox EV. Like the 2024 model year, it will roll off the assembly line the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico.

  1. It’s withstanding those LONG high speed chases (and may other capabilities) that I highly question.

    1. I didn’t know of any high-speed chases that go for hundreds of miles.

      1. Yeah, you can outrun some police cars but you can never outrun their Radios.

As far as overtaxing the drive train, this of course remains to be seen, but it seems only the FORD ECOBOOSTS have a heating problem with their Police Vehicles..

It might get a bit warmer in the Cabin as the refrigeration system prioritizes the motor/inverter cooling as well as the Battery Heat from ‘floored acceleration’. But since the competition is having problems in this area, GM Electrics should shine in comparison.
