2024 GMC Canyon Recalled For Unsecured Fuel Tank Lock Ring

Some units of the 2024 GMC Canyon are included in a Safety Recall issued by GM, with affected trucks including a fuel tank lock ring that wasn’t properly secured during production by the third-party supplier.
“General Motors is voluntarily recalling certain model year 2024 Chevrolet Colorados and GMC Canyons to inspect and, if necessary, fully lock the fuel tank lock ring,” said the automaker in a statement provided to GM Authority. “The safety and satisfaction of our customers are our highest priorities and we’re working to remedy this matter as quickly as possible.”
The problem: affected 2024 GMC Canyon pickups are subject to a production error in which the fuel pump and fuel tank assembly are connected by a lock ring that was not fully locked at the factory.
The hazards: with a loose fuel tank lock ring, the jolt caused by a crash or other impact the 2024 GMC Canyon may be involved in could cause the lock ring to open. With no seal between the fuel pump and fuel tank, gasoline may slosh out, potentially catching fire if it contacts hot surfaces, sparks, or flame, with a chance of setting the crashed vehicle ablaze. GM is not aware of any field incidents associated with this condition.
The fix: General Motors instructs service personnel properly certified for GM service to inspect the fuel tank lock ring of possibly involved 2024 GMC Canyon trucks brought to the dealership for service or in current inventory. If the lock ring is loose, it should be retorqued, ensuring the fuel sender lock ring retainer is fully locked.
No replacement parts are needed to complete the fix, which requires approximately 1.7 hours of labor. GM stresses that the fuel tank pump module should not be removed at any time during inspection or repair.
Affected components: fuel sender lock ring.
Affected vehicles:
- 2024 Chevy Colorado
- 2024 GMC Canyon
Number of affected vehicles: a total of 2,492 GMC Canyon units are affected by the recall, along with 6,130 Chevy Colorado units. Vehicles held in inventory must not be sold, traded, delivered, or demonstrated until correctly inspected and, if necessary, fixed.
Owners should: wait for a letter of notification from GM advising them to make an appointment with the nearest GM dealer service department. It is also possible to visit my.gm.com/recalls and search by VIN to see if a specific truck is included in the recall.

Cheapest parts from lowest bidder (and a lot of Chinese parts) and questionable quality control in the production process. Constant recalls across all makes and models, bad situation.
