Following the introduction of the third generation 2024 GMC Acadia, the Big Red brand’s crossover moves up in size to become one of the biggest in its segment. With that, the Acadia adopts a tougher overall exterior appearance. In order to facilitate this fresh look, the all-new Acadia features a variety of drive modes, so with that in mind, GM Authority is taking a closer look at the 2024 GMC Acadia drive modes in the following explainer.
The 2024 Acadia is available with up to five drive modes, including Tour, Sport, Snow / Ice, Off-Road and Tow / Haul. In order to activate each mode, drivers must press the “Mode” buttons on the instrument panel positioned to the left of the steering wheel. When a mode is selected, an indicator will come on in the instrument cluster and remain on.
It’s worth noting that Tour is the default mode at every ignition cycle.
Tour
Tour Mode is used during normal city and highway driving to provide a smooth ride, and provides a balance between comfort and handling.
Sport
Sport Mode is used when road conditions or personal preferences dictate a more controlled response from the vehicle. As such, this drive mode improves vehicle handling and acceleration on dry pavement by modifying steering efforts, pedal tuning, and engine sound.
Snow / Ice
Snow / Ice Mode is used to improve acceleration on snow-covered roads. When activated, this drive mode adjusts pedal tuning to optimize traction on slippery surfaces.
Off-Road
Off-Road Mode is used for recreational driving in all-terrain conditions. This drive mode is used to improve driving at moderate speeds and on grass, gravel, dirt, and unpaved- or snow-covered roads. With the accelerator pedal tuned for off-road use, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control System (TCS) systems are modified for performance.
Tow / Haul
Tow / Haul Mode is used when pulling a heavy load. When active, this drive mode modifies transmission shifting, suspension tuning, steering effort, and Trailer Sway Control in order to assist in maintaining the desired vehicle speed when driving on downhill grades. For vehicles equipped with the AWD drivetrain, this mode also engages AWD.
