2024 Chevy Colorado Recalled For Unsecured Fuel Tank Lock Ring

General Motors has released a Safety Recall for certain units of the 2024 Chevy Colorado pickup that were produced with an unsecured fuel tank lock ring by a third-party supplier of the involved components.
“General Motors is voluntarily recalling certain model year 2024 Chevrolet Colorados and GMC Canyons to inspect and, if necessary, fully lock the fuel tank lock ring,” said the automaker in a statement provided to GM Authority. “The safety and satisfaction of our customers are our highest priorities and we’re working to remedy this matter as quickly as possible.”
The problem: 2024 Chevy Colorado trucks that are affected by this issue were built with the lock ring that connects and secures the fuel pump and the fuel tank assembly is not fully locked.
The hazards: if a 2024 Chevy Colorado with an unlocked fuel tank lock ring is involved in a high-speed crash, the kinetic energy may cause the lock ring to open and the fuel pump and fuel tank to separate. Gasoline from the tank may spill out, and if it comes in contact with flame, sparks, or hot surfaces, it may ignite and cause a fuel fire. GM is not aware of any field incidents associated with this condition.
The fix: certified GM service technicians are instructed to inspect the fuel tank lock ring of potentially affected Chevy Colorado units. If the ring is not properly locked, the technicians should lock it, retorquing the fuel sender lock ring retainer until it is properly secured.
The fuel tank pump module should not be removed during inspection or repair. If relocking is necessary, the fix should take about 1.7 hours to complete. No new parts are needed for this repair.
Affected components: fuel sender lock ring.
Affected vehicles:
- 2024 Chevy Colorado
- 2024 GMC Canyon
Number of affected vehicles: a total of 6,130 Chevy Colorado units are affected by this recall in total, along with 2,492 GMC Canyon units. Involved pickup trucks must be held in inventory until inspected and the fix applied if necessary.
Owners should: GM will notify owners of affected vehicles, telling them to make an appointment with the local GM dealership’s service department. 2024 Chevy Colorado owners who want to see if their pickup is involved in the recall can visit my.gm.com/recalls and enter the vehicle’s VIN to see open recalls or other quality issues.

It’s beginning to look like GM is trying desperately hard to grab Ford’s recall crown.
The twins may be ready for release with the 2026 model year… maybe.
QC, maybe these high paid union workers should inspect what there doing .
There, there. Maybe they’re just doing their jobs down there.
Explain why non-union Teslas / Mercedes/ VW models built in the US have huge product quality issues? Is that the UAW’s fault too?
Third party supplier. Probably non union. It doesn’t matter if it’s union or non union. It’s the character of the person doing the job.
There’s always someone on here blaming a supplier.
Never mind that most of GM’s parts come from a supplier, and those suppliers also work for the other manufacturers.
That’s what the article says.
Read more carefully, it’s a third party supplier.
All auto manufacturers have them I have had many recalls on both my Honda and a Toyota that I traded for the Honda. Lots of parts in modern vehicles all parts have production date codes so the manufacturers can track production issues and isolate them to vehicles assembled in that time frame.
They do make more money, dollars should result in better product shouldn’t it ?
The problem with union labor:
– you cannot fire anyone for being incompetent
– the competent see the incompetent making the same wage get away with everything on a daily basis
– the competent quit caring
– the manufacturing process devolves to that of the least competent
If union labor was required to meet a quality standard, and those that failed to comply could be terminated and replaced, things would be different.
Union is a choice. And quality will always be produced from union labor because we have a choice to better ourselves and our products.
GM management speeds up the lines and cares less about quality. Employees are punished for stopping the line and pointing out problems. This has been going on for decades.
Tee..THANK YOU for stating the facts. Management is ONLY interested in the number of vehicles that roll off the end of the assembly line! They will harshly discipline ANY. line worker who stops the line for any reason. When issues of quality/safety are brought to Management’s attention the response is:. “Ship it…fix ix on the fly…let the line GO.NOW.”
Always the unions fault
Management that allows the line to continue when legitimate quality issues are reported to them by line workers, should be reprimanded. If the issue was safety related and would compromise the safety of the end user, they should be terminated on the spot. Union or not shouldn’t matter! What ever happened to teamwork and pride? My 2 cents.
