2024 Buick Enclave Boasts Lowest Ownership Costs In Its Category, Says Consumer Reports

The 2024 Buick Enclave has been picked by Consumer Reports as a vehicle recommended on both its performance and reliability merits and which offers the lowest ownership costs over time for its segment, namely the Large 3-row SUV category.

Consumer Reports says owners of the 2024 Buick Enclave will save more than $2,000 on ten-year ownership costs compared to owners of average competing models in the same vehicle segment.

The report states that “among luxury SUVs, the Enclave stands out for its low ownership costs.” While the average three-row SUV generates $8,700 in maintenance, repairs, and other expenses over a decade of ownership, the 2024 Buick Enclave is expected to cost its owner just $6,610. This amount is 24 percent less than the typical vehicle in the category.

The study does note, however, that 2024 Buick Enclave units equipped with 20-inch wheels may have somewhat higher ownership costs. This extra expense results from two factors – pricier tires and a higher chance of wheel damage. As a reminder, 18-inch wheels are standard on the Essence and Premium trim levels, while 20-inch rollers are standard for the range-topping Avenir trim. A range of 20-inch LPO or dealer-installed wheels are also available.

The 2024 Buick Enclave also has a Recommended rating from CR. Positives include a comfortable ride, a quiet interior with ample space, an infotainment system that is straightforward to use, and a smooth-running, responsive engine. On the downside, according to the study, fuel efficiency is lower than usual, and many advanced safety technologies are optional rather than equipped as standard.

Driving experience, comfort, and styling all received high marks. The 2024 Enclave also showed good reliability in many of the categories studied, unlike earlier model years that had issues with brakes, steering, and the climate control system.

For motivation, the 2024 Buick Enclave utilizes a single powerplant: the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LFY gasoline engine, which develops 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Cog swaps are made with the GM nine-speed automatic transmission, while FWD is standard and AWD is optional.

Under the skin, the Enclave is underpinned by the long-wheelbase version of the GM C1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan.

  1. It’s an SUV, so I could care less. But I will say that I’m very glad to see that they called out the overly large tire/rims as being of higher costs due to more expensive to replace and higher chance of rim damage. It’s about time they actually said it.

Anything over 18″ rim size is stupid and there’s zero reason for it. The fact that nearly every brand designs ugly 16, 17 and 18″ rims and only offers the nicer looking rims in 20″ or higher is sad. Just another money grab by forcing someone who likes a nice looking design rim to go so large with a similarly large price increase.

    1. It’s not the rim size it’s the low-profile tires. Which are all the fashion today and cause the problems you mention. Not to mention being loud and ride like #. But hey dude, 22″ rims! Right. Right? 🙄

The industry needs to stop chasing itself, and get back to some practicality.

      1. You do know that rim size and tire profile go hand in hand right? They aren’t riding on 17″ wheels with 30 series tires…

        1. TMI: Thank you. I have zero clue how “Dan” could even say such a thing. Do people just not think?

I can see it now. Riding high on those 17″ rims with 30 series tires!! haha. Or better yet, seeing Dan try to put a 65 or 70 series tires on 22″ rims.

  2. We purchased our first Buick in 2016, it was a amazing car, we just purchased a new 2023 enclave.
We were not able to test drive the one we have because they gave us the wrong car, wrong vin wrote up. So took it back and they gave another that they said was the exact same car. The road noise is defining. Had to take it back because of the noise from the tail pipe. They had to replace the exhaust system. The road noise is still horrible. I truly wish I never bought a Buick again.
