1957 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible Being Auctioned

The Cadillac brand was established in 1903. A part of Cadillac’s fiftieth anniversary celebration, a new flagship model was introduced. A contest was held to name the new car. The name was a contraction of the name of the mythical South American city of gold El Dorado, and thus the Cadillac Eldorado was born.

The Cadillac Eldorado was the pinnacle of the Cadillac line, with a body unique to itself. The 1953 Eldorado convertible featured a lower beltline, wraparound windshield, four colors not found on any other 1953 Cadillac (Aztec Red, Alpine White, Azure Blue, and Artisan Ochre), available air conditioning, and a limited production totaling just 532 units.

The Cadillac Eldorado received a full redesign for 1957, with a lower stance, a three-piece front bumper, down-swept rear fenders with polished stainless steel rear quarters from the rear fender openings to the back bumper, and an exhaust that exited through the rear bumper. The Eldorado Biarritz convertible (coupes were called Broughams) was powered by a 300-horsepower, 365 cubic-inch V8 fed by a single carb. In dual four-barrel carb guise, the 365 made 325 horsepower. The Eldorado Biarritz cost $7,300, and only 1,800 units left the factory in ’57. The 1957 Eldorado Biarritz was reputed to have more pieces of chrome trim than any other GM car in history.

Our feature 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz has been the subject of a painstaking restoration. Originally finished in Copper Metallic over Copper Metallic leather, this Eldo has been refinished in dazzling Bahama Blue over blue and white leather with a white vinyl convertible top. It is powered by the 325-horsepower, 365 cubic-inch V8 backed by a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The Eldorado is equipped with a power soft top, power drum brakes, power steering, power windows, E-Z Eye Automatic Dimming headlights, an AM radio with a power antenna, fifteen-inch Sabre wheels wrapped in wide-whitewall rubber. Included in the sale are the manufacturer’s literature and photos from the restoration.

This stunning Cadillac Eldorado is currently being auctioned on Bring a Trailer, with the sale ending Monday, July 22nd.
