We’re Driving The 2024 GMC Acadia – What Do You Want To Know?

For the fresh model year, the 2024 GMC Acadia arrives on-scene as the third generation of the Big Red three-row crossover. It brings about an all-new exterior design, an overhauled cabin, and a long list of standard tech goodies and safety features. With all of that in mind, GM Authority is set to get behind the wheel of the 2024 Acadia this week, and we were wondering if you, dear reader, had any burning questions on your mind regarding the upcoming next-gen Acadia.

GM Authority will be driving the AT4 and Denali variants of the all-new 2024 GMC Acadia. For those who may be unaware, the former is marketed as the off-road-inspired model, while the latter is positioned as the range-topping offering.

Side profile of 2024 GMC Acadia

On the technology side, a 15-inch infotainment screen pairs with a standard 11-inch diagonal driver information center, while additional bits include Google built-in, available GM Super Cruise, nine available camera views, Forward Collision AlertFollowing Distance Indicator, and Rear Park Assist, among others.

Under the hood lies the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine, as GM Authority was first to report. Its output is rated at 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque, while the GM eight-speed automatic transmission directs said output to either a FWD or AWD drivetrain configuration. Notably, this powertrain combination is equipped as standard fare across the model lineup.

Regarding structure, the third-generation Acadia rides on the long-wheelbase variant of the GM C1 platform, which now incorporates the GM Global B electrical architecture. Meanwhile, production has been moved to the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan and kicked off in March 2023.

So then, we want you to tell us: what do you want to know about the 2024 GMC Acadia? Tell us by posting your questions in the comments section below, and we’ll answer as soon as we’re able. It should also be noted that driving impressions and detailed feature spotlights will be under embargo until Thursday, June 13th, so we can’t give you our full review until then.

  1. Does the AT4 include the universal home remote? It should be an option in the infotainment screen according to the user manual, but I have not seen that demonstrated in any videos yet.

Does the parking brake automatically engage/disengage? Or is it still manual engagement despite being electronic?

Does the front camera automatically turn on if an object is sensed by the front parking sensors (e.g., pulling into a parking space)?

Does the 4WD drive mode persist between restarts? Or does it default back to FWD mode every time?

    1. How many rpms is it turning at 70 mph?

      Reply
    2. From ~3 weeks of ownership:

Parking brake does not automatically engage from what I can tell but it does automatically disengage.

Front facing camera does not automatically turn on based on front parking sensors. There may be a setting for that, but I haven’t noticed it.

      AWD is persistent between restarts.

  2. Do you feel that the .06 L engine is just too powerful and that GM, sorry…..gm could have gone with something even smaller and weaker?

    Like a .005L engine? a 1 or 2 cylinder option maybe?

    1. Slightly more power and a good amount more torque than the last gen, and yet it’s “weaker”? The logical thinking department will be reaching out shortly.

      1. We can boost a 1 cylinder to make 1,000 hp too……….doesn’t mean its going to last a long time or be great to live with…. but big numbers woo hoo……

Sticking these crappy, short life, over complicated small engines in cars is just another attempt to push EV’s……

        Reply
        1. Actually GM would want you to buy a Silverado as that is their money maker. It is the government that wants you to drive EV because “it’s better for the environment”. Auto manufacturers need to follow the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard with is set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). CAFE numbers a expected to go from 49 MPG up to 58 MPG.

        2. I understand where you’re coming from, but let’s not pretend that the 3.6l was known to be a long-lasting reliable engine. The later years are pretty good but the Traverse and Acadia never got the best one either. 3.6l reputation should have had them ditching it about 8 years ago.

That said, the GM 2.7l has underwhelmed for performance and real world fuel economy compared to the competition….cough the f150 2.7. On paper it sounds comparable but it’s just not translating. Not sure how this 2.5 l performs in the real world both efficiency and power.

          1. We would have to see the MPG ratings for the new 2.5L compared to the out going 3.6 V6. I bet there will be a slight improvement in fuel economy.

As far as the 2.7L, I understand your concerns for that motor. The 2.7 does get the same MPG ratings in the Colorado as the outgoing 3.6 Colorado. But, GM is using the 2.7 because it is better for towing. The 2.7 will lean more on its turbo instead of hunting for gears. I recommend that you watch TFL’s video where Andre talks to the engineer about the 2.7 and they will explain how the this engine is built more like a diesel for longevity.

    5. I test drove the 2024 Acadia AT4 and everything about the four cylinder turbo was definitely underwhelming. The engine didn’t seem to move the car as well as claimed to do, not with the size and weight of this new 3rd generation model; it was loud and rough. A six cylinder engine would have been the perfect match with this 2024 Acadia. I personally won’t be buying the car because of the engine, although the new styling is very appealing.

  7. New Acadia Denali versus current XT6, if you can answer, does it feel on par in terms of luxury “feel” (material quality) also how does it compare size wise? My current XT6, for me, is the absolute perfect size, big enough to carry stuff but not so big it seems ridiculous when it’s just me. I like the looks of the Acadia and it seems the XT6 won’t be getting a refresh or replacement…so that doesn’t leave me much choice.

  13. I took possession of my 2024 Acadia last week, and it doesn’t have the much touted windsheild wiper heated pocket. I was given a $100.00 credit off of the price of the Acadia, what is going on with the heated pocket and will it be available at some time in the future and will the $100.00 credit cover the cost of installation, I sincerely doubt it.

    1. Typically, when they offer this there is no retrofit and GM will not put that feature back in for any price. The only way they can stop that BS is if you vote with your wallet and don’t take possession of incomplete vehicles.

Universal Home link- saw a YouTube where it looked to be accessible about 3 layers deep on the tablet. Can you show how to access/use?

I have not seen anyone use a microphone to input an address on the map function. Can you or do you have to type in?

How far back can you put the second row seats back before the 3rd row lay flat feature fails due to the 3rd row headrests hitting the second row?

Show us how to take off the tow cover on the bumper and what it looks like.

My preorder Denali AWD is held up because of tow package unavailable?? Does that mean the tow ball is unavailable?
Are the Acadia’s ready to tow the 5,000 lbs right out of the gate of do you need parts or a package to do so?

Can you use regular fuel in all instances including towing or are there times when they say to use premium fuel?

Is the Acadia as quiet (except under hard acceleration) as some seem to indicate? When under hard acceleration- is the Acadia super noisey and lawn more sounding or is it not too bad?

    Thanks!

*Setting it up is a couple layers deep in the UI. Once the transmitter is set up, the garage opener button is geofenced and shows up at the bottom of the home screen as you pull up to your house, etc.

I’m talking about the HEV like the Toyota grand Highlander hybrid that doesn’t have to be plugged in and gets up to 36 mpg. It’s not cost effective to me to pay for gasoline and electric to charge the PHEV. I drove a 2024 Denali fwd and it had a lot of torque steer, so when are they going to get more selections at the dealership? Interested in a AWD but nobody has one.

  29. let us know if the GMC Denali you are testing is AWD or FWD. AND if it is equipped with the tow package (RPO code v92) when you test.

I have been trying to order an AWD Denali with tow package since the first day preording was allowed. The tow package lets it tow up to 5,000 lbs. My dealership still cannot order because of tow package availability.

EVERY You Tube review, article, test drive etc. keep stating that the Acadia can tow up to 5000 lbs. Not true w/o the tow package (ONLY 1500 LBS without).

I can’t even imagine all the people assuming their SUV will tow 5000 lbs and purchasing one and finding out they cannot (and I doubt the dealerships will inform them before purchasing). Just WOW!

  30. The trailer package is standard on the Denali. No need to order it as it comes on the Denali. If you look on GMC website you can view window stickers of Acadias already on lots and in transit. They show trailer package on Denali window stickers.

  33. Well my first question can’t be answered (yet) and that concerns long term reliability of the new 2.5 engine (Even if it IS a “scaled down 2.7” it’s still NEW) and I’ve been burned by “new” GM tech before. (’15 Sierra Denali 1500 with the 8L60 transmission & an ’08 Saturn Aura with a first gen 6T70) My second question would involve real world MPG. One of the previous articles right here says although EPA City and Combined remain the same, Highway actually goes DOWN 2 MPG! (Acadia Denali AWD)
But the question I keep asking and not getting an answer to is: WHERE did this “new, transverse GM 8-speed automatic” come from??? In past years GM has (in concert with Ford) produced both a transverse 6-speed and 9-speed transmission both to great fanfare, but NOTHING is being said about the 8-speed being used here… Buehler? Buehler?

It was right in the heart of COVID and when I called GM to try and lemon law it they refused simply telling me “you have a powertrain warranty just keep replacing it!” By the time I traded it in, they had almost as much money in parts and labor tied up in the vehicle as I had in purchase price!

  36. Somehow, my dealership was never able to order my AWD Denali Acadia saying they could not get the tow pkg added on and would be up to 2 months after order was in.

They one I wanted was the one shown at the Detroit Auto show (car mom did a nice video) Waterfall Metallic (Blue) and Sheer Leather inside (slightly off white).
Well GMC just started shipping this configuration and all were in transit 3 showed coming to Florida. I contacted a GMC dealer up in Jax about 140 miles from me at 7:50pm on Thursday and it was driven to me and in my driveway by 1pm Friday.

So to answer some of my questions I posted earlier.
Homelink remote was very easy to install if you have a remote clicker.

Very much a bummer to learn there in NO brake hold so you can take your foot off the brake at lights.

The videos out there keep showing the 3 row head rests hitting the second row when using the buttons in the rear to lower the 3rd row. The quick solution is to push the 2nd row seat button to move to tilt and foward the 2nd row seats. when you push back the 2nd row; they automatically return to a location where the 3rd row will drop completely when lowering.

Had the dealer show me how to remove the plastic cover on the trailer hitch. Kinda gotta get on your back and twist and pull out the 2 grommets holding the cover on and a little tricky getting back on: It exposed the harness and the trailer hitch receptacle.

The brakes come on strong (not grabby but quick) but just take a little getting used to.

Someone asked if the front cameras came on if the sensors detected surrounding object. They do come on for me when I enter my garage and are so accurate up an inch.. Best cameras I have ever used and the rear camera has a much wider visual area than most so you can really see what might be coming at you.

The wheel is wonderfully meaty sized. The telescopic steering wheel function is nothing special and the 2nd row arm rests “just” get the job done.

I have sat in the front seats for over an hour and they have been more than great. Very slightly firm but normally my ass would be screaming in other cars I have had. These seats have been wonderful.

The cabinet is very quiet (except under hard acceleration) and the car really drives like a dream).

Man, I was not expecting to put in 10 grocery bags in the rear cubby area with the lid closed. I knew it was large but this is great!

    Regular gas is great.

The info tablet is great but I think it will take a little getting used to how hard and how long to push the button to get it to react (like the home link).

One issue I ran into: The next morning the radio was barely at a whisper and I could not get it to go louder. I had to look up on Youtube and the 2024 GMCtruck audio not working video showed how to put the car in safe mode and reset the audio and it worked!
