We Render A Potential NASCAR Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Race Car

The Chevy Camaro has spearheaded GM’s NASCAR efforts since its introduction to the Cup Series for the 2018 season, and its discontinuation (along with that of the Chevy Malibu) leaves the automaker without a clear successor to compete with the Toyota TRD Camry and Ford Mustang Dark Horse on the track. As GM’s pool of sedans and muscle cars continues to dwindle, there’s still a tantalizing option in its portfolio, and we here at GM Authority couldn’t help but wonder: what if the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing were to become the new NASCAR racer, and what would it look like?

Based on the refreshed 2025 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, our rendering reimagines the luxury sedan as a race-prepared NASCAR Next Gen race car. Its front end features the stacked headlights and uninterrupted lighting strip lifted right from the updated CT5, although as is the case with every NASCAR race car, we imagine they’re just decals that don’t actually function.

It’s the same case with the five-point grille, which features a black “mesh” decal over carbon fiber to disguise the actual intakes. We also decided to keep the chrome grille surrounds as a point of visual interest on the race car’s front end. The hood, meanwhile, features a pair of hood louvers similar to those seen on the real-life Camaro race car.

Out back, we treated our imaginary Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing NASCAR race car with the luxury marque’s signature vertical taillights and flattened out the rear quarter panels to give it a boxier sculpt. The Caddy badge is a nice touch under the huge rear spoiler, and just like the front end, we kept the chrome trim on the deck lid to break up the monotony.

Of course, it’s highly unlikely that the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing will be introduced to the NASCAR Cup Series for real. Cadillac Racing currently has its hands full with IMSA and the FIA WEC, where the Cadillac V-Series.R competes in endurance races around the world. However, it’s worth noting that Chip Ganassi Racing will ditch the luxury marque’s motorsports program in 2025, and Caddy hasn’t announced anything regarding its plans for next year.

But that still leaves GM without a viable competitor in NASCAR. It’s likely that it’ll simply continue to race the Camaro, although the sport is working on an electric crossover-based Cup Series race car that could be the future of stock car racing. If that’s the case, GM could turn to the Chevy Blazer EV SS to represent The Bow Tie instead.

  6. Yeah, I know I’m going to get flamed for my view but I stopped really caring about NASCAR when they let Toyota
In with it’s Camry. Traditionally NASCAR was 2 door American muscle. NHRA did the same allowing Toyota in.
As far as Cadillac, why not.
Race on Sunday buy on Monday.

    Let the flames begin.

    1. Exactly. This was my first thought when I saw this article. Cadillac no longer makes a coupe. Only grandpa cars with 4 doors. Not suitable or marketable as a performance car. So what would Cadillac gain from the effort?
