Originally debuting for the 1968 model year, the second-generation Chevy Chevelle is considered by many enthusiasts to be the quintessential muscle car of the late 1960s and early 1970s. That being said, the following video may be difficult for some to watch, as two 1972 Chevelle SS models were recently damaged in a trailer accident.
Posted online, the video demonstrates the aftermath of an unfortunate traffic incident. The two muscle cars were being towed home from the Rick Ross Car Show in Fayetteville, Georgia, when they were allegedly struck by an elderly driver in the adjacent lane.
It’s worth noting that there doesn’t appear to be any footage of the accident itself, but the results themselves are evident.
The damage was quite extensive, as both 1972 Chevelle examples were involved in the incident. The blue unit was knocked clear off the trailer and likely sustained heavy damage, while the silver Chevelle has damage to the rear driver-side quarter panel and wheel/tire.
It appears as though there was also a red Ford F-150 that was involved in the accident, but it’s unclear if the Blue Oval pickup either caused the damage or was another victim of the crash. Finally, the rig pulling this trailer was a GMC Sierra HD Denali dually, which unfortunately did sustain some damage.
Thankfully, it doesn’t appear as though anyone was severely injured as a result of this accident.
In other Chevelle-related accident news, a few years ago, GM Authority reported on a Chevy Chevelle that got a little too excited on a wet highway. After punching the gas, the driver of the Bow Tie muscle car found himself perpendicular to the road and careening head-on towards a minivan. Unfortunately, the Chevelle struck the minivan and pushed it off the roadway where it did two barrel rolls in the grass.
Of course, you never know what may happen on public roads, so be sure to stay alert and aware!

What I don’t understand is how the chevelle came off the trailer and not the other one.It appears that it was not properly installed on the trailer and where was the tie downs. This looks preventable and I’m sure speed and weather also played a part😢
Oooo, -that’s painful to look at!
Am I seeing this correctly? Does that GMC truck have some type of wire wheel covers or wire rims?
Sickening to see that. Can’t imagine! Dually has major damage to. Left front tire is flat and the rear tires are looking in the wrong direction. Shame!
i wonder if something went wrong on the truck. The rear axle is out. It could have bucked up and broke the front Chevelle free.
It is a shame the wheels they put on the cars. Toooo big.
On the bright side, the blue Chevelle would be real easy to work on in that position. 🙁
