The 2024 Chevy Traverse debuts an all-new third generation for the full-size, three-row crossover, introducing a wealth of updates and changes. Among these is all-new styling, with the Traverse adopting a number of design cues inspired by Chevy‘s truck lineup. Interestingly, the 2024 Chevy Traverse also incorporates a new “shark fin” style C-pillar, a design theme seen elsewhere in Chevy’s modern vehicle lineup, but one which many readers have criticized. Now, it looks like one 2024 Traverse owner has applied a custom “fix” to the issue.
Previously, GM Authority asked readers if they thought the new Traverse’s shark fin C-pillar looked good, inviting them to voice their opinion by voting in a poll. The results were divisive, with 61 percent of voters expressing disapproval of the shark fin pillar, and 39 percent of voters approving of the design.
Indeed, the shark fin C-pillar on the 2024 Chevy Traverse has proven to be somewhat controversial, as the poll results demonstrate. Interestingly, it appears as though one owner has addressed the issue by wrapping the C-pillar on their 2024 Chevy Traverse in black.
An anonymous tipster sent GM Authority a single image of the customized Traverse, seen in a parking lot. The image shows the C-pillar wrapped in black, while the rest of the vehicle is predominantly white. Additional black elements include a black roof, black sideview mirrors, black wheels, black badges, a black grille, and other black detailing. The 2024 Chevy Traverse featured in the photo is an RS model.
Overall, we think that the wrapped C-pillar actually looks pretty good. Coincidentally, the modification lends the crossover a belt line that resembles that of the new Cadillac Optiq (which, funny enough, we think is a bit busy).
What do you think? Do you like the wrapped C-pillar on the customized 2024 Chevy Traverse seen in the photo? Voice your opinion by voting in the poll below, and make sure to subscribe to GM Authority for Chevy Traverse news, Chevy news, GM Design news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

There you go you can hardly notice it’s there…I wouldn’t let the shark fin stop me from buying one either because that’s one good looking vehicle!
Shark fin is odd. The rest off the vehicle is great. That wrap is very good.
The shark fin C-pillar is an UGLY design element.
The only thing wrong with the new Traverse is the sound coming from the four cylinder. It drives good and the power is adequate. You just can’t cover up that sound!!! The wrapped fin is an improvement.
Yea, I test drove one one last week. The 4-cylinder screams 4-cylinder. I wish they left it at V6 and not set forth to stress 4-cylinder with added Turbo
I’m gonna have to test drive one I have the 2.0T in my equinox and it’s pretty quiet then again if you want quite buy an enclave. God the things you people complain about I used to like GM authority but the negative comments are a little much every thing GM does lately you’ve all got something negative to say about it keep your outdated V6 which we have an our enclave and I hear that running to it’s not an EV it’s a gas Turbo so when you step on the gas yes it will make noise. I feel like I am teaching toddlers… TURBO=NOISE MORE HP NATURALLY ASPIRATED=LESS NOISE LESS HP! and no as long as you change your oil and don’t treat your turbo engine like a refrigerator it won’t blow up. Ok recess time we we come back we can pick on Buick”s new grill and maybe the ZR1 Corvette!
Unfortunately, you’re faced with a bunch of folks who were likely previously dead set against V6 engines replacing their beloved V8s. That was, until over time they discovered that the V6s were more than capable.
Now, they don’t want to give up their V6s in favour of more powerful, torquey and efficient 4 cylinder engines. Technologies change, but mindsets are often rigid.
You can’t have any sort of meaningful adult discussion here with the naysaysers (“toddlers”) who intentionally trash anything posted here, that doesn’t agree with their “GoogleTube”, “Reddit” mentality or what they read in magazines, which must be true.
BTW, the unique intake roar and exhaust sound are not objectionable. for many years GM and other vehicle manufacturers have been using Helmholtz Resonators to tune the air induction systems on engine.
The resonators eliminate or reduce objectionable vibration frequencies, while improving air flow performance. Turbocharged systems with 100+VE do have a unique sound, but tend to be more diesel-like in characteristic under load.
FWIW, most of the time, the turbo’d engines run around at lower RPMs at any given speed, so any tuned induction noise from the resonator is a complete non-issue.
My ’23 GMC Sierra Elevation with L3B 2.7L (310HP/430 lbft torque) is a very quiet ride. It far outshines everything that my ’71 GMC with NA 350 ci (LS9 255 HP) does and the fuel economy is 2.5-3X better. It’s also waaay quieter in every way.
what do you mean by treating it like a Refrigerator?
What I mean by treating it like a refrigerator is…not doing oil changes on time, not keeping up with routine maintenance, and then blaming the car manufacturers for building a bad vehicle! Your car comes with an owners manual with everything you need to know or you can look it up online if you’ve got time for Facebook you can do that to. Also Turbo engines require full synthetic oil and you can’t say oh I can go 10,000 miles that’s BS! I wouldn’t do that with a regular engine either. The most I go with 2.oT equinox is 5,000 miles sometimes 4,000 I rather spend the extra money then have engine trouble.
The problem is that the shark fin is too big and blocks visibility. Compare with the Kia Sorento which also has a shark fin but it’s much more elegantly designed and slimmer.
Fordfan I don’t cross shop GM with Kia sorry lol! This is a much better looking vehicle learn how to get around it!
The shark fin looks like it was made by an executive decision, thinking it’s cool, but doesn’t understand design. It and it’s variants of “me to” bad C and D pillar designs will be okay for a few people, but limit sales. Otherwise he car is great and I would love one, but can’t get past the one horrible design detail.
GeeMan155 your way of thinking is dull same old same old…I like it it’s different I wish that whole rear window could be painted body color or a different color it’s useless when driving you can’t see anything out of it. Ok I’m done next up a rooster comb in that window.
We ordered the Z71 last winter, it came in the last week of May.
We picked it up, runs ok, engine sounds horrible.
We ordered every option.
After we got home, we got home we found it had no memory seats, manual passenger seat with no lumbar, no ventilated seats, no homelink.
We took it back the next day and returned it.
Brought home another Blazer.
Keep it up GM, another total fail!!
A simple test drive and a tiny bit of research would have uncovered your complaints, though your story does not sound creditable. I cannot imagine anyone ordering a $50K vehicle and doing no research. Returned it in a day? If true, you must have more money than brains. IMHO
Can’t believe someone would buy at $54,000 vehicle and not know the standard features before signing paperwork.
The RS is the top-of-the-line trim that comes with all that (except memory seats) and more. A little research before ordering would have been a good idea.
The RS does not have Memory Seats?
The RS has memory seats. I have one. Absolutely love it!
@Parker you can laugh at me if you want but my 20/20 Chevy Equinox 2.0 T LT has memory seats but I can’t figure out how to use them lol 😆. I do however love the car It’s one of the best cars I’ve ever owned and we would look at this traverse if we needed another vehicle Right now we have a 2019 enclave essence model and we love it too.
RS Has memory seats. It will store up to 8 driver settings.RS
Ventilated Seats are not standard in the Z71 ?
Ventilated Seats are only available in RS trim? Can someone clarify? I don’t see why Ventilated Seats would not be offered as an upgradable feature in LT and above
@KeithThe fact that you didn’t get the options the dealers fault not GM it sounds they didn’t order the right options you wanted or got it to you ASAP I would have told no I want the Traverse I ordered. You have to break the engine in I’m sure there is a break in period IMO. Well good luck with the Blazer what GM should do in the future is not promise to have these new cars delivered by a certain date so that when your order comes in the right way you pick it up it’s being rushed to much and the dealers probably aren’t doing their homework and making sure that brand new car sales go smoothly the Blazer is an easy sale it’s been around for a while the new Traverse should be studied by salesmen instead of worrying about a quick and easy sale.
The Wrap gives The New Traverse another Sporty Look with the matching Blacked-out Bow-ties, Rims, Mirrors
and Lettering. I would call this The RST Version.
Way too much blackout going on here. I’m not a huge fan of the shark fin C-pilar but hate all the cheap looking overkill of black everywhere. These vehicles are going to look like rolling piles of junk after the Sun starts fading all these black bits out as I see all the time on 5-8 year old vehicles. With that said I certainly don’t mind the black emblems, grille accenting and roof rails. Beyond that its just gaudy
I like the shark fin, not the wrap. The wrap makes it look like a bus.
1. Shark fin is BACKWARDS for direction of vehicle.
2. 4 cylinder = more rpms per mile. More rpms = more abuse of internal parts. Especially when weight of vehicle is factored into the equation.
btw: When was the last time that you towed a decent sized trailer with a 4 up a hill let alone a mountain? Want to try slowing on a downhill with a downshift for some engine compression?
Walt sounds like you need a truck not a CUV this is a minivan with doors….ummm no the new Turbo 4 is not high revving I know I own one welcome to 2024 …I. Fact my turbo 4 is better then any V6! Get used to it it’s going to this or EV in the future almost all companies are going turbo 4 and those that haven’t are. It helps if you research the engine before you comment or test drive one.
I own a Z71. It’s a really nice car. I got black on black and it’s really sharp. It’s like a truck mixed with SUV. Shark fin isn’t as bad as I thought. Kids sit back there no complaints. I personally don’t like this wrap. Looks odd. Should have just gotten black.
Chad people in general dislike new things me I happen to like the shark fin because it’s something different I don’t think it would take away from your visibility because who looks in that little window while they’re driving anyway I don’t I have an Equinox I don’t we haven’t , we also have an enclave even in that car I don’t look through the little window only if you’re sitting back there and and even then I don’t look in that little window so if they cover it up it’s no big deal to me but everybody’s entitled to their opinion. Have a good day and God bless 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Chad finally a positive comment on the new Traverse I hope you enjoy many years with it good luck 🤞🏼👍🏼
I think the new TRAVERSE is probably the best looking mid size on the market bar none. As far as the 4 cylinder I’m not looking to go 60 in 3 seconds so if your looking for that kind of throttle response you need look elsewhere .
Do you know if they’ll offer Bench Seating as an option in RS at some point? Idk why they offer it as an option in LT but not in RS
I don’t know why everyone is complaining about the shark fin. I see them on lots of different models of vehicles. We bought the RS and absolutely love it! No complaints here!
The shark fin don’t bother me at all. It’s funny because I didn’t even realize it was there until I ran across this advertisement about the Traverse. Purchased mines almost a month ago and I’m pleased with it. Drives very good especially the highway as it definitely gets up and go. The ride is very smooth and quiet. A couple of things that could be updated or at least considered in the future since the Traverse is called a baby Tahoe. Upgrade sound system to the Bose and make the vehicle sit up a little higher including the steering wheel. Overall I do love my Traverse no complaints here.
Too bad you can’t get one!! HUGE failure for GM. Hundreds of new Traverse setting in Michigan rotting away,, meantime they can’t figure logistics of getting them to the dealer/customer. People waiting 5-6 months for delivery. I put $500 down to take delivery of an order my dealer has placed for 2 months now,,,, latest update,,,,,setting in an empty lot in michigan waiting for transport,,,,,NO ETA. GM turning into Boeing….sad
Nothing you’ve said makes a whit of sense. You claim that ‘you can’t get one’ then mention that ‘hundreds of new Traverses (are sitting) in Michigan rotting away’ implying that they have them though they don’t want to sell them for reasons?
You’ve said nothing that indicates you have a single idea what you’re going on about.
