After being officially revealed way back in January 2022, deliveries of the Chevy Equinox EV finally got under way just last month. We’re already spotting Equinox EV units prowling American roads, so with that mind, GM Authority recently got behind the wheel of the Bow Tie brand’s all-electric crossover and shot a detailed tour of the exterior.
GM Authority Executive Editor Alex Luft recently got ahold of a 2024 Equinox EV unit and gave his impressions on the interior and exterior of the electric crossover. Notably, the model is compltely different than that of ICE-powered 2025 Equinox, which itself just received an all-new generation.
One of the more notable highlights of the Equinox EV’s exterior design is the C-pillar treatment, which has become a big part of the Bow Tie brand’s design language for its crossovers, as seen on the 2025 Equinox and next-gen 2024 Chevy Traverse. Giving the appearance of a shark’s dorsal fin, it appears to work well with the overall design of the all-electric crossover.
Additional bits include the front light bar treatment and dual-tier lighting design that began with the 2019 Chevy Blazer. Of course, it’s hard to miss the Lyriq-style door handles and the enormous windshield – as it leads to a long and prominent A-pillar – along with the RS-specific black accents like the 21-inch black wheels and black Chevy emblems.
Out back, a noteworthy styling piece is the ledge positioned underneath the rear hatch glass. Almost giving the look of an integrated spoiler, the ledge gives the back end of the Equinox EV additional character and flair. Finally, stylish taillamps round out the rear design.
So what do you think, dear reader? Let us know what you’re thinking in the comments section below.
As a reminder, the Equinox EV is offered in FWD and AWD drivetrain configurations, where the former develops 213 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque and the latter feature produces 288 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque. GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motor technologies provide the motivation, while the maximum range currently sits at 319 miles on a full charge.
Under the skin, the Equinox EV is underpinned by the GM BEV3 platform, while production takes place at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico.

How does it get away with just those tiny little headlights in the bumper? Also, every styling gimmick on this thing has already been in use by Hyundai and Kia for several years……
When it comes to modern lights, like the ones seen here, it’s not the size of the light… it’s how you use it.
Modern LED reflectors are very very bright.
They look like parking lamps…..
That red/piano black combo is absolutely stunning. Glad to hear it drives well too.
Looks like the kona.
Wha??????? Because it is a shape and has wheels?
The Kona has the same LED strip across the front with lower darker panels, nothing new here, this is just copying what Hyundai and KIA have already done for several years.
Complete and utter rubbish.
Hey now, your post wasn’t THAT bad…….
Looks really good in that color.
I like the looks of it very much but I don’t understand gm’s model/portfolio strategy.
The new Equinox EV at 191” OAL and 116” WB has grown significantly larger and now fits squarely in the midsize category. Exactly where the Blazer EV sits. In fact the Equinox EV and Blazer EV overall length and width are within an inch of each other. The Blazer EV has a slightly WB which no one will notice and may or may not provide slightly more interior room (TBD).
So they have two crossover EV’s in the midsize category under the same Brand sitting on top of each other size-wise. So I guess they the had to make room for the new Bolt in the compact segment?
Vehicle size is determined by interior volume, not the length of the vehicle or the wheelbase. I’ve sat in both, the Blazer is larger inside, noticeably so.
The wheelbase is only 9 inches longer and the OAL is only 8 inches longer on the Equinox EV compared to the ICE version, that’s not bad at all. It’s not the same size as the Blazer EV. Blazer EV wheelbase is 122 inches, nearly 10 inches longer. Length is nearly the same. You can tell the difference inside the Blazer, it feels much roomier.
There’s a 6” delta in WB btwn the two (122” vs 116”) which, as you say, could be enough of an interior difference.
I’ll be interested to see the EPA interior volume numbers and how they feel from the drivers seat.
Why reinvent the door handles, I can definitely see a lot of ring/jewelry scratches happening just above the stupid door handles. I mostly like the exterior, just a few things to change. Door handles, and the back hatch is robbing too much cargo area, maybe add a little more ground clearance.
Because Tesla has weird door handles and they are “cool” and their stock is worth a lot of money…..and GM, sorry…..gm, wants to be cool and wants their stock to be worth a lot of money.
So monkey see…..monkey do.
I am a “died in the wool” GM driver with over 60 years in the brands. I need a new EV as my Volt is coming up o 6 years old. I thought I was waiting for the new Equinox. But just now I learn it is made in Mexico. I want a Yankee made/UAW made car. This could turn my buying desire completely in another direction. I guess it depends if I can find it in another brand.
