Images Of New 2024 Buick GL8 Variants Leak In China

A month and a half after the official launch of the all-new 2024 Buick GL8 PHEV in China, images of new variants of the refreshed 2024 Buick GL8 have just been leaked in the Asian country.

Chinese authorities have published SAIC-GM’s future product statement for new the 2024 Buick GL8 trim levels, which will complement the range of Buick’s successful full-size MPV below the new plug-in hybrid variant. As usual, the government leak includes the first images and technical details of the base versions of the facelifted 2024 GL8 in the Chinese market.

Specifically, the leaked images correspond to two different variants of the refreshed 2024 Buick GL8 that feature their own unique design and powertrain features. On the one hand, there’s the fully updated 2024 GL8 ES equipped with a regular internal combustion engine and a new base version for the lineup called the 2024 GL8 LS that includes a hybrid powertrain.

The new 2024 Buick GL8 ES adopts the exact same exterior design of the all-new plug-in hybrid variant, both based on the thoroughly redesigned 2024 GL8 that uses the MPV’s third-generation platform and structure. It stands out for its new organic body panels with flush-mounted door handles, and includes the 177 kW or 237-horsepower turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY engine.

Meanwhile, the yet-unreleased entry-level 2024 Buick GL8 LS is basically a refreshed, previous-gen GL8 that introduces new front and rear styling inspired by the brand’s Pure Design language, but without any changes to the side body panels. This entry-level version features a hybrid powertrain consisting of a local variant of the 2.0L LSY engine coupled with an electric motor that generates 155 kW or 208 horsepower.

The new base ES and LS versions of the facelifted 2024 Buick GL8 are expected to be officially unveiled soon in China, and go on sale locally in the second half of this year, continuing the refresh of Buick’s China-exclusive full-size MPV lineup. The only thing left to be seen is what will happen to the venerable second-generation GL8 Legacy, which could be replaced by this new, refreshed entry-level LS version of the GL8 III.

  10. Sad how Buick USA has all but died. Anything offered here is not a Buick, with maybe the Enclave exception. Buick was my go to car, along with Oldsmobile, for 68 years. Those days are gone.
