Here’s When 2025 GMC Yukon Production Is Scheduled To Start

A mid-cycle refresh is on the way for the 2025 GMC Yukon, bringing styling revisions, a revised instrument panel and a new powertrain, among other notable changes. Now, here’s when production of the updated Yukon full-size SUV will start.

2025 GMC Yukon Denali

GM Authority has learned that the start of regular production (SORP) for the 2025 GMC Yukon and extended-length Yukon XL is currently scheduled for October 7th, 2024.

The current-generation GMC Yukon’s mid-cycle enhancement will introduce a revised front fascia incorporating the brand’s latest C-shaped headlamp treatment, along with a new set of fog lamps. A new roof-mounted communications fin will also be included in the changes, allowing for 5G network connectivity. At the rear, we’ll see a reshaped taillamps in addition to redesigned exhaust outlets, such as dual through-fascia finishers and quad-tipped units in posher trim levels. For the first time, the options list will offer 24-inch wheels and tires.

2025 GMC Yukon AT4

The 2025 GMC Yukon’s interior will boast an all-new digital driver instrument cluster and a larger infotainment system touchscreen, necessitating a redesign of the center stack and dash as a whole. The stacked row of gear selector buttons will be replaced by a stalk-mounted arm incorporating the transmission selector, with the Park button located on the tip of the stalk. A new camera-to-phone steaming system should also be available. Super Cruise will also be offered as before.

The powertrain list will continue to feature the 5.3L V8 L84 engine as standard, while the 6.2L V8 L87 engine will be optional or standard, according to the chosen trim level. However, the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine will be replaced with the 3.0L I6 LZ0 Duramax. This revised powerplant will develop 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet, up from 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet in the previous diesel option. We’re also expecting the Duramax to be available in the GMC Yukon AT4 for the first time. All three engines will be matched to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission.

2025 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate

Under the body, the 2025 GMC Yukon will continue riding on the GM T1 platform, which has been the case since the launch of the current generation model for the 2021 model year. The Yukon is built at the GM Arlington Assembly plant in Texas alongside the Chevy Tahoe, the Chevy Suburban and the Cadillac Escalade.

  1. I like it and glad to see a start of production date.. Except for the huge vertical infotainment screen. And reviews of the smaller but similar one in the new Arcadia reports bad reflection in bright light. Would liked to seen one similar to new Tahoe. At least something different in the Denali would have been nice.

  2. All good except the displacement on demand

  3. Come on GM before it’s too late and you go out of business put some power in your rides. Everybody will buy them again like Dodge and Ford. Don’t be stupid. The 6.2 is great, but it doesn’t compete with the eco-boost or the new TwinTurbo V6 the Dodge has — doesn’t even come close. It’s a turtle and ancient compared to them

  4. Come on GM. You are making a big mistake by putting that large vertical screen in the Yukon. It looks like a large screen tv or an I-Pad in a luxury vehicle. I own a 2023 Yukon Denali and would not buy that with that big screen. Take a note from the 2025 Infinity QX80. Beautiful truck. Gets my vote. I have been a GM customer all my 77 years, I am ready for my last vehicle, I thought that it would be a GMC Yukon, but not that. If you come out with that screen like that I will not buy it.

    1. I tend to agree that this large vertical screen looks like they just slapped an iPad on the dash. I don’t think it is even angled towards the driver. On my 2021 I have to reach forward to touch anything on the right side of the screen.
This is my 8th or 9th full size GM SUV and first GMC, the rest where Suburbans. I like everything else about it.

I am leaning towards going back to the 2025 Suburban as the dash looks much more integrated and angled, however the new Sub to me is more like a soccer parent car and the GMC more of a motocross parent car. Both good, just different.

  5. I am excited for the release! I love my big screen in my Ram and will come back to GM because of the updated interior. This is a much needed refresh to include the vertical big screen. Love it all!

  6. Current model ‘21-‘24 headlamps look much better and more iconic than what’s planned for ‘25.

  7. Grammar should be a no-brainer for a ‘seasoned automotive journalist’. But this statement of -“we’ll see a reshaped taillamps” is not grammatically correct.
I’m also looking forward to how they will install a steam system in the interior, based on the mention of ” A new camera-to-phone steaming system should also be available.”
All I ask is have pride in your work and proof read a small article like this before submitting it. Hopefully GMC will pay more attention to detail when building the 2025 Yukon than this author did with his article.

  8. Oh no – I have been patiently waiting for GMC to change the infotainment screen to something like my neighbor’s RAM. BUT, from what a see in the picture – that is just UGLY! It needs to be smoothly incorporated into the dash. That looks like it was slapped on at the last minute as an afterthought. That ruins the class of the Denali – especially for the level of the Denali Ultimate. Please redesign this – I really want this truck BUT will not trade in my current 2017 Yukon Denali for something that will be embarrassing.

  9. I agree! Please redesign that horrible dash. Hands down worst design yet! Take a lesson from other makers like Telluride. Screen flows nicely into entire dash design. The reason I didn’t buy 2020 Ford Explorer and the only reason I will not trade my 2021 Tahoe for the new Yukon. So disappointed!

  10. No fan of vertical screen smudge and grease collector. A deal breaker for me.
