Here May Be Why Your Cadillac XT5 Or XT6 Has A Front-End Noise

Your 2020 through 2024 Cadillac XT5 or Cadillac XT6 may be subject to an issue described in a recent GM service bulletin if you can hear noise at the front end when you make a turn or when the crossover drives over rough or bumpy surfaces.

This Cadillac XT5 and XT6 front end noise may be caused by the front strut spring rotating out of alignment because of remaining mold release agent in the isolator seat, Technical Service Bulletin 22-NA-239 says, with a remedy available at dealerships if this is in fact the cause.

Dealer service personnel are to inspect Cadillac XT5 and XT6 units that have front end noise during the noted driving situations. If the front strut spring is in contact with the fender, the service personnel should proceed with applying the fix. The inspection takes about 10 minutes total.

The fix itself, a one-hour project, takes one of two forms depending on the details of the issue. The strut spring should be replaced completely if its black finish has been stripped by rubbing on the fender. If the finish is still intact, the spring should be removed, its isolator and isolator seat scrubbed with soap and water, and the spring reinstalled to remedy the issue.

As a reminder, the 2024 Cadillac XT5 and XT6 both cradle one of two available engines under the hood, either the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine developing 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, or the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine offering output of 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque.

Each of the two engines connects to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission, with both FWD and AWD drivetrains available – either standard or optional depending on the trim level.

Both crossover models are supported by the GM C1 platform, with production of the XT5 and XT6 taking place at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

  1. Just had my 2024 Acadia in the shop for this exact problem after less than 1000 miles on it. Just as an FYI for anyone buying a new Traverse/Acadia. It was handled quickly by the dealership.

  2. Well I don’t notice 2022 XT5 making this noise but one noise I did notice it makes, when I open the door after some time since driving it, I hear some clicking noises, usually four clicks (I assume its relays activating) as the screens and instrument cluster lights up. Its especially noticeable when she’s in the quiet garage. I highly doubt its an issue and I’m sure its normal as she’s been doing it since new. But its interesting how once these cars transitioned to keyless start they make all sorts of noises now. The electronic parking brake has to make a whirring sound too.

  3. I wonder if this could be the noise I hear in my 2020 Terrain.

  4. I’ve seen this post for GMC, Buick and Cadillac CUV’s, does anyone know it if applies to the Chevy Traverse for those same years. I know the platforms are similar but built at different Assembly Plants.

  5. I had this exact problem with less than 1000 miles on my 2020 XT5. It took over a month for the dealer to fix it. To be fair this occurred just as COVID hit. I have not had an issue since
