Tire company Goodyear has announced that it has released new all-terrain rubber through one of its subsidiaries. The Cooper Discoverer Stronghold AT is an off-road-ready tire designed to handle snowy conditions.
Designed to deliver exceptional grip in all conditions and on all terrains, the Cooper Discoverer Stronghold AT all-terrain tire is built to withstand every form of abuse and benefits from a bevy of features, including:
- Considerable traction in dirt and gravel: Wide open grooves in the tread grab the terrain underneath them, along with narrower center grooves that help to provide stability.
- Minimal slip: Specialized rubber compound and wide lateral grooves plow through water.
- Three-peak mountain snowflake designation: Designed for severe snow conditions and specific snow performance test requirements.
Beyond these attributes, each Cooper Discoverer Stronghold AT tire is backed by a standard limited warranty and Cooper 45-day satisfaction guarantee, as well as 60,000 mile (95,000 kilometer) tread wear protection.
Of course, there’s a tire size available to replace every OEM-equipped all-terrain tire on the light-duty Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups. In regard to the heavy-duty Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD trucks, this is almost the same case with the exceptions of the LT305/70R18 Goodyear Territory MT and LT265/60R22 all-terrain tires. Notably, the former tire is equipped on the Silverado HD ZR2 and Sierra HD AT4X, while the latter rubber is optional on the Silverado HD LT, LTZ, and High Country models and Sierra HD AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate trim levels.
As a reminder, both the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 are offered with a wide range of engine options for off-road rowdiness, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
Meanwhile, the Silverado HD and Sierra HD are powered by either the standard naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, or the optional 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated to 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque.

had cooper once before good year took em over. they were ok. they always had great offroad tires for the price. but i just run good year proper on everything. no flat spotting, no dry cracking.
I have CS5 Ultras on my Rav. They are excellent all weather tires and perform phenomenally in the rain. Much better than the OEM Bridgestone Ecopias.
Infomercial ?
Cooper has always performed well for me. I have the AT3s on my 2015 LML (Second set). They wore better and had better snow and ice traction at lower tread depths than the original Michelin A/Ts that were on it. The ATWs were great on ice, but the soft compound did not wear well.
If goodyear wants to continue a truck tire line up. Bring back the goodyear wrangler MTR. Now that’s a kick ass tire. Nevermind all the rest of the brand junk. Especially BFG ko’s. Those are absolute garbage. Try MTR and you’ll never go back.
Interesting. I never knew Goodyear owned Cooper. I love their CS5 Ultras and am coming up on having to replace them on the Rav this fall. Will definitely replace in kind on the Rav and will put them on the XT5 when it comes time to replace the OEM Michelins.
It’s a recent purchase (2021) Goodyear now is Americas sole domestic tire company. Wish they would add a little love to the Kelley safari TSR family. Hard to get one in certain sizes.
They purchased Cooper three years ago . Cooper tires are the main reason they purchased it they speak for themselves! I built copper tires for over 24 years .
Probably purchased nearly a dozen new sets of Cooper’s mostly for my trucks. I had ONE raod hazard warranty tire replacement & I spend a lot of time in the mountains. Imho, the best tire for the $ out there… I will say, I’m pleased with the GY Trailrunner AT’s on my couple of HD trucks. A great, quiet ride & seem to wear well also.
Don’t know why you can’t find Cooper tires on the Goodyear web site to purchase tires ??
