Although it was revealed just a couple of months ago as the Wuling Xing Chen Plus, SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) has now renamed the upcoming crossover the Wuling Starlight S and has just announced that it will be launched very soon in China.
General Motors’ second joint venture in China has revealed new images of the all-new Wuling Starlight S and announced that it will launch Wuling’s next electrified utility vehicle during August in the Asian country. The new Starlight S will ultimately be the first dual-power utility vehicle from the manufacturer’s best-selling brand in the Asian country, including a model with an all-electric powertrain and an entry-level plug-in hybrid version.
Notably, SGMW is turning the Starlight nameplate – introduced late last year with a midsize sedan – into a new model family of Wuling’s new energy vehicles. As such, the new Wuling Starlight S crossover will build on the good marketing momentum started by the standard three-box Starlight, which posted a strong sales start and has become one of the most successful models in its class in the Chinese market.
As we reported during the model’s initial debut in April, the all-new Wuling Starlight S is an all-new electrified compact crossover developed from the ground up on the D platform of SGMW’s new modular Tianyu EV architecture. It stands out for introducing a new evolution in the brand’s design language with a sleek front end and a unique new 7-shaped front lighting signature.
The biggest news in the new Wuling Starlight S image gallery is the revelation of the interior design for the first time. It introduces the “simplicity and warmth” design concept with a wraparound cabin that connects a horizontally lined dashboard and elevated center console. In addition to the 15.6-inch multimedia screen and digital instrument panel, the Starlight S adopts a new flattened steering wheel with a circular center and round control modules.
The all-new Wuling Starlight S will be officially launched and available for sale at the brand’s dealerships in China in August. The initial color palette includes four body colors: Star White, Interstellar Blue, Hoshino Grey, and Star Sparkle Gold. Meanwhile, the interior is available in three color combinations: Light Sand, Black, and Coconut Brown. Powertrain details will be revealed at a later date.

Interior design, stick to ipads on a horizontal slat. Yuck. Hope it is at least priced like the interior.
