GM Truck Sales Up Three Percent To 218K Deliveries During Q1 2024

GM truck sales increased in the United States and Mexico but decreased in Canada during the first quarter of 2024.

GM truck sales grew three percent to 217,929 units in Q1 2024. Shown here is the Chevy Colorado ZR2.

Not all of the above models are available across all three North American markets. The all-new 2023 Chevy S10 Max midsize pickup and the all-new 2024 Chevy Montana compact pickup are only available in Mexico. Additionally, GM began selling the next-generation 2023 GMC Canyon in Mexico for the first time ever.

The Silverado, meanwhile, is sold in Mexico under the Silverado name for the Work Truck (WT) and Custom trim levels and under the Cheyenne name for the LT trim level and above, including RST, ZR2, and High Country. In the U.S., the Silverado family includes light-duty (half-ton 1500), heavy-duty (three-quarter-ton 2500 HD and one-ton 3500 HD), as well as medium-duty (4500 HD, 5500HD, and 6500 HD) vehicles. In contrast, the Sierra family is comprised of light-duty and heavy-duty models.

GM Truck Sales – Q1 2024 – United States

Cumulative deliveries of GM pickup trucks in the United States increased three percent to 217,929 units in Q1 2024, comprised of:

  • 128,926 units of the Chevy Silverado, an increase of almost two percent compared to 126,992 units sold in Q1 2023
  • 14,922 units of the Chevy Colorado, an increase of nearly 13 percent compared to 13,256 units sold in Q1 2023
  • 68,597 units of the GMC Sierra, an increase of two percent compared to 67,198 units sold in Q1 2023
  • 5,484 units of the GMC Canyon, a decrease of over nine percent compared to 5,016 units sold in Q1 2023

GM Truck Sales – Q1 2024 – Canada

Cumulative deliveries of GM pickup trucks in Canada decreased five percent to 29,535 units in Q1 2024, comprised of:

  • 13,042 units of the Chevy Silverado, a decrease of over two percent compared to 13,324 units sold in Q1 2023
  • 984 units of the Chevy Colorado, a decrease of more than 34 percent compared to 1,497 units sold in Q1 2023
  • 14,574 units of the GMC Sierra, a decrease of over four percent compared to 15,244 units sold in Q1 2023
  • 935 units of the GMC Canyon, a decrease of more than 20 percent compared to 1,171 units sold in Q1 2023

GM Truck Sales – Q1 2024 – Mexico

Cumulative deliveries of GM pickup trucks in Mexico increased 66 percent to 11,909 units in Q1 2024, comprised of:

  • 3,950 units of the Chevy Silverado/Cheyenne, an increase of over 70 percent compared to 2,318 units sold in Q1 2023
  • 412 units of the Chevy Colorado, an increase of more than 62 percent compared to 254 units sold in Q1 2023
  • 5,697 units of the Chevy S10 Max, an increase of nearly 43 percent compared to 3,991 units sold in Q1 2023
  • 782 units of the Chevy Montana
  • 995 units of the GMC Sierra, an increase of over 60 percent compared to 621 units sold in Q1 2023
  • 73 units of the GMC Canyon

Silverado sales grew just two percent to 128,926 units, comprised of:

  • 84,586 units of the Silverado Light Duty (1500), down 2.9 percent
  • 41,916 units of the Silverado Heavy Duty (2500 HD and 3500 HD), up 13.6 percent
  • 2,424 units of the Silverado Medium Duty (4500 HD, 5500 HD, 6500 HD), down 19.1 percent

GMC Sierra Sales – Q1 2024 – United States

GMC Sierra sales also grew just two percent to 68,597 units, comprised of:

  • 46,223 deliveries of the Sierra Light Duty (1500), with sales nearly flat
  • 22,374 deliveries of the Sierra Heavy Duty (2500 HD and 3500 HD), up 7.5 percent

2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country Interior

In the U.S. market, Chevy sold nearly twice as many pickup trucks as GMC during Q1 2024. Specifically, the Chevy Silverado and Colorado combined for 143,848 deliveries.

Meanwhile, the GMC Sierra and Canyon cumulatively moved 74,081 units.

Comparing sales of midsize to full-size pickup truck deliveries, that ratio is about 10-to-one in favor of the full-sizers, with 197,523 full-size truck deliveries compared to 20,406 midsize deliveries during Q1 2024. Midsize truck sales cumulatively represented 10 percent of overall GM truck sales for the quarter, with the smaller trucks faring better this time around against their larger siblings compared to the previous quarter.

However, the Silverado and Sierra families are much larger than the Colorado and Canyon midsizers, offering models across various capacities with higher weight and tow ratings.
