General Motors has released a Service Update for select units of the 2022 to 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup over an issue with the power tonneau cover.
According to Service Update N232434060, certain 2022 to 2024 Hummer EV Pickup examples may have a condition where the power tonneau cover doesn’t open or close. If this were to be the case, certified GM technicians are instructed to inspect affected vehicles and replace the electronic control unit (ECU) or power tonneau cover motor as necessary. Notably, it should take techs roughly 1.6 hours to fix this issue.
It’s worth mentioning that it’s unclear how many units are affected by this new Service Update.
For reference on the feature itself, the Hard Power-Retractable Tonneau Cover (RPO code 5KN) option was introduced for the inaugural 2022 Hummer EV Pickup for an extra $3,695. Additionally, Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 models were equipped with a soft roll-up tonneau cover as standard fare.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first fix for the tonneau cover that General Motors has recently issued. Earlier this month, GM Authority reported that The General released a Service Update for select units of the 2022 and 2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup due to a problematic ECU.
As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup is powered by GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium Drive motors technologies. The range-topping Edition 1 model is capable of delivering up to 1,000 horsepower and roughly 1,200 pound-feet of torque.
In regard to structure, the Hummer EV Pickup rides on the wide-body variant of the GM BT1 platform, which it shares with the GMC Hummer EV SUV. Of course, the narrow-body version underpins the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV. Production of the upcoming 2025 model year is currently scheduled to kick off on June 3rd, 2024 at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan, previously known as the GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant.
