GM Design Team Reveals Cadillac ‘Expressive Coupe’ Study

At present, Cadillac does not offer any kind of two-door coupe, with the current lineup composed entirely of sedans, crossovers, and SUVs. That said, there is definitely a hunger among enthusiasts and fans for a new two-door Caddy model. Now, GM Design is showing off the Cadillac Expressive Coupe concept, giving us a look at exactly that.

The front end of the Cadillac Expressive Coupe concept.

The GM Design team posted the Cadillac Expressive Coupe concept on social media, offering a tantalizing glimpse into what a modern two-door Cadillac could look like.

“The coupe was created as an internal exploration of Cadillac aesthetics,” GM Design shared on social media. “It shaped a portfolio of products on the road today, including the CT5 and CT5-V Blackwing.”

The concept images reveal a striking silver two-door layout characterized by sleek lines and sculpted surfaces. The Cadillac Expressive Coupe boasts a low and wide stance, complemented by a low roofline and cab-back proportions. The design also incorporates a graceful rear end, intricate black-and-silver wheels, and distinctive mesh grille adorned with silver trim.

The rear lighting is composed of solid straight lines set at square angles. The front fascia layout includes slim upper lighting signatures and pronounced lower intakes, tying the concept seamlessly into Cadillac’s contemporary aesthetic.

GM Authority can trace the history of the Cadillac Expressive Coupe back to 2018, when GM Authority uncovered a design patent that appears to be the early blueprint for this concept. This design could have been the foundation for a two-door Cadillac CT5 model, showcasing what might have been if Cadillac had pursued production. And who knows – if there’s sufficient demand, this stylish coupe may even transition from concept to reality, filling a niche in Cadillac’s lineup and appealing to those who crave a sophisticated two-door option. Here’s to hoping.

  1. Please build another coupe!

I know I’m one of the few who prefer one to any SUV or sedan and the odds of getting one are slim to none, but please do it!

I’ve had an ATS V coupe, a CT5 V and now a CT4 Blackwing. I’d like to remain a Caddy customer (though I’ve owned Audi, BMW, Infiniti and there’s a Mercedes Cabriolet next to the Blackwing now). But if what comes next are only EV sedans I’ll probably get a German something with ICE. Not because I’m totally against EV, but because current EV tech doesn’t meet my needs. Charge times are too long.

    Here’s to hoping

    1. Unfortunately Cadillac is KING of concepts and never producing them. I hate when they do this ❗️

  2. This looks exactly like a Camaro from the side and at the very back quarters looks like a mustang, go figure leave it to GM to design a car that looks like a mustang and Ford to design their 2025 mustang to look like a Camaro. Come on people get your crap together and design what people really want and as the old saying goes “Crap or get off the pot”

Not something from a well-funded, professional styling organization.

The El Mirage concept is still more fresh and relevant.

    1. Yup and it’s an EV with 500+ HP so 0-60 in under 3. This Caddy/Camaro could be built on the same assembly line in Lansing MI and would sell for $60-90K depending on the bling. Real attention getter which is the point.

  9. Please make this with an LT5 and a Tremec TR6060 in it. I’ll take 1 in Blaze Orange Metallic with a black interior and 1 in Blade Silver with a red interior. I’m absolutely serious. That car is ‘shut up and take my money’ material.

If it’s an EV you can just go ahead and dump in the Mariana Trench.

  10. Looking at the C-Pillar design on this, it works in a way that it has never worked on CT5. I suppose this coupe was a possibility before the all-EV edict came down but whether it was or wasn’t, it clearly was the precursor to the CT5’s side window/trim design. The EV mandate likely killed any chance it had at reaching production. It may have been a JdN-era proposal. I think this was the direction he favored for Cadillac.

  13. If they ever build another coupe, they need to make it tall enough for people over 6 feet to fit. GM used to be able to make them still look sporty and sleek (length helps). Enough with the caricature Camaros!

In addition to my beautifully designed 2021 C8 Z51coupe (kind of uniquely built with Torch Red, body color accents, yellow calipers, bright silver wheels and natural dipped interior) we’ve got a 2012 CTS coupe w/black diamond paint. People still ask what year it is and can’t believe it’s a 2012. GM sometimes does get it right!

  18. Too much Camaro, not enough Caddy, design feels recycled. I’d much prefer to see a new XLR based on the C8 Corvette with a hybrid drive (more electric range than the e-Ray), that MIGHT please both sides. Certainly not EV only, need the rumble of a V8 with extra get-up-and-go from motors.

    Dare I say… no turbo, unless it’s a Blackwing!!!!

  27. A lot mixed reviews in the comments, but style-wise, this could be a game changer for Cadillac. Their past efforts at a sleek, attractive coupe have really failed in the styling department

XLR : Bob Lutz admitted in the recent interview the style was not up to the competition
90’s – 2000’s Eldorado: mostly awkward and boxy
    Allante: safe styling

Nothing in the lineup today evokes passion. The V’s seem purposeful at best. The Celestiq is an abomination past the halfway point. Cadillac desperately needs some style — different is not enough.

Is Cadillac reserving cutting edge styling for their EVs? How about a large dramatically styled powerful luxury coupe, instead of a Cadillac muscle car?

  44. Im tired of this mandated EV bs. Make this on the 6th gen Camaro platform, with an LT2, LT4/LT5, with a 6spd option. Otherwise dont make it at all.

Anyone with a room-temp IQ knows that EV’s & their battery production are no better for the environment than ICE. If we really cared about “global warming” (& it was actually caused by c02) we’d restrict private jet flights. Taylor Swift’s jet did 220k miles & 1,250 TONS of c02 last year alone.

But data shows c02 lags & rises after temps rise. (Not the other way around). And the ice age is proof we’ve always had climate change.. even before humans. Earth was still warming after the ice age when we started tracking global temps. Ill believe Dem’s propoganda when they stop buying beachfront property & flying private.

But until then, why should us enthusiasts suffer from the will of the few?

    Reply
    1. Anthropomorphic (human caused) climate change is a hoax. Just another way to destroy the America the Founders created in order to have a 1-world government. America is the roadblock to this (unless Biden or some other far-left POS gets elected in 2024). George Soros is the most evil man alive, a genius who is hoping for another Civil War in the US. That’s why he is funding far-left DA’s, paying ANTIFA professional protesters, paying anti-Israel protesters and encouraging illegal immigration.

      1. How do we go from automotive talk to Crap Politics and climate change…. come on

        Reply
        1. Because several jackasses politicized these comments when they brought up how wonderful EVs are….BTW, EVs are the second biggest modern hoax perpetrated on us, next to anthropomorphic climate change. Hybrids are much more sensible than EVs, because hybrids (like the E-Ray) use a battery to increase performance (AWD) or as an aid to increase the MPG of an ICE, not some fantasy of “good for the climate.”

          Reply
          1. All you Neanderthals need to stop obsessing about ICE tech which is 150 years old. Forget about global warming and recognize that EVs are waaay faster, cost much less on fuel to run, and require no maintenance. Also, lots of folks hate Exxon and don’t want to give their hard earned $$ to big oil. EVs are the future whether you want to live in the last century or not.

            Reply
            1. Look, no matter what side of the fence you’re on you have to admire Dodge/Stellantis for introducing the new Charger. It’s a real vehicle slated for production, not a concept. It comes in both ICE and EV flavors, and it actually has some style. Most modern car designs have devolved to rounded blocks, rolling doorstops or overinflated bulbous structures.

This Caddy is still just a dream, so until there’s something tangible, there’s at least another option.

              Reply
              1. Chevy has promised another generation of Camaro and Caddy needs an EV coupe, so this is more than the usual BS concept With 500+ HP, it will be a winner.

                Reply
            2. All of your childish name calling just proves you have no argument. 0-60 times are what matter. Half the cost of fuel is what matters. Not paying Big Oil matters. But go ahead and keep driving your Fred Flintstone car until the wheels fall off. I don’t care.

  45. It does look like a Camaro. However, to me that’s okay since the Camaro no longer exists. Keep the A pillars thin enough to keep it from looking like a bunker. The LT5 was a nice idea and make it available with manual or auto. This time, put a really nice interior in it. Take a look at a Jag or Aston for interior tips. Load it up with all the goodies. Maybe for fun, some rocker switches, see 2005 Ford GT.

I might be willing to forego the planned upgrade to the C8 Z06 if you do it well enough.

  48. EVs may well be the future
But you can’t ignore the fact that the current EV experience cannot be compared to the gasoline experience

Simple requirements for convenience for most people may include:

A range of at least 300 mi in the winter in the Midwest
It should be possible to charge the vehicle to full within 10 minutes
It should be possible to find a fast charging station anywhere within a 5 mi radius of an urban environment
At least every 7 to 10 mi off any major highway
    EVs are massively overweight
Weight needs to be drastically reduced to help reduce unnecessary wear on the tires and wear on the roads as well
Weight is also part of the handling of the vehicle
Have you noticed that there are no convertible EVs?
Weight is also consideration with respect to safety in the event of a collision
Fire safety is another consideration for EVs
There may be other considerations as well

We don’t need to switch to EVs necessarily this year

    Reply
    1. Charge your EV overnight in your garage. Weight is a major issue for trucks and SUVs, but nobody cares.

ICE cars are way more complex so there are many more potential failure points. ICE cars catch fire all the time.

ICE cars cause smog which is nasty. Gas stations are nasty too and you easily get carjacked there.

      Reply
      1. Hey Paul, do you work for the Chinese? Lies and half-truths. ICEs don’t start on fire just sitting there, unlike EVs. You’ve got to get into a pretty bad accident to get an ICE to burn like a Tesla or a Koenigsegg Jesko. Smog? California’s air is cleaner than it’s been in decades. BTW, where do you think all the air pollution particulate from lithium processing in China ends up? Here, due to westerly winds. Hey thanks for letting me know that EV charging stations are now officially crime free. Must be because these lowlifes are all Green. You get dumber with every post.

        Reply
      2. People get carjacked at charging stations too
        Mainstream media doesn’t report it
In fact there’s a much greater risk if it takes more than 20 or 30 minutes to charge your vehicle

        Let that sink in

        Reply
  49. I also want to add that the increased tire wear related to the heavy weight of EVs also contributes to air pollution because of the particulate matter that gets released into the air

For all those people who are worried about doing something about “climate change” this week
