Corvette Racing Conquers The Glen With Podium Finish

Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims brought Corvette Racing back to the podium during the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen on June 23rd, 2024, as the No. 3 Corvette Z06 GT3.R bounced back from an early race incident, proving it had the speed to keep up with the leaders for a third-place finish on Sunday.

The No. 3 Corvette Racing GTD Pro machine plummeted in the standings after undergoing a quick brake change before galloping back toward the front by the time the checkered flag fell on the rain-soaked race. Although time ran out for the Sims-Garcia duo to challenge for the win, the podium finish was an encouraging result for them. In fact, it’s the first time this particular pairing has made the podium.

“I’m happy with this. Considering we were on the front row the last two races and didn’t convert, it feels like today we got one back. It was an amazing job by Corvette Racing and Pratt Miller guys to change the brakes,” Garcia said. “I had one of the scariest half-stints in my life when a whole set of our tear-offs on the windscreen came off and then came back on. So I had a triangle in front of me and I couldn’t see to my left. Somehow I made up several positions on the restart, but it was very scary to just keep the car on track.”

Meanwhile, the No. 4 Corvette Racing team of Tommy Milner and Nicky Catsburg had to surrender the lead on the final lap. Fuel splash forced the No. 4 Vette into the pits, taking them from the top spot and handing them a seventh-place result instead.

“I knew [Milner] had it and we were hoping the fuel would work out, but then that got snatched away. It’s tough,” said Catsburg. “This style of racing makes some of these races a lottery. At the start I didn’t think we would be in a position to go for a win because our car was great everywhere except on a straight line. So that was a frustration.”

Matt Bell, Orey Fidani and Lars Kern finished seventh in the GTD class, sharing driving duties in the No. 13 Corvette Z06 GT3.R. Unfortunately, heavy rains forced the race car off track after briefly running in the top five, relegating them to a much more disappointing finish.
