Corvette C7 Z06 Drag Races Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 With Weird Results: Video

When it comes to high-performance machines capable of producing more than 1,000 horsepower, it’s difficult to enjoy such enormous capability anywhere outside of a dedicated track. That being said, it’s a wonder to watch such vehicles compete against one another, and that’s just what this Corvette C7 Z06 and Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 did in a recent video.

The Hoonigan YouTube channel recently facilitated a drag race between two grossly powerful weapons. Starting with the Dodge, this muscle car is actually stock (at least mechanically), but it’s no slouch for it. As a farewell to the V8-powered Challenger model, Dodge created the Demon 170, which features upgraded goodies like a 3.0L supercharger, beefier internals, and horsepower ratings sitting at 1,025.

As for the Vette, this Z06 boasts a race-ported blower, smaller pulleys, methanol injection, a track-spec wheel and tire package, and the true hallmark of a powerful car: a parachute. All told, America’s sports car is likely developing somewhere around 900 horsepower.

The two performance vehicles had three rounds to duke it out. In the first round, the Demon 170 clearly jumped and got a huge head start. However, per Hoonigan rules, “a chase is a race,” so the Vette ultimately lost as it was unable to run the Dodge down.

Going into round two, the cast was able to talk the owner of the Demon 170 into giving the Corvette C7 the hit, as it was essentially equivalent to the jump the Dodge took the race prior. Both owners agreed, and the Vette was able to pull out a win and tie the series.

For the final race, both drivers agreed not to jump each other for a fair and clean race. Unfortunately, the Corvette Z06 spun its tires off the start line while the Demon gripped up and ripped away, resulting in an unsatisfactory ending to what likely would’ve been a fantastic showdown.

Despite three runs, the results are inconclusive, so we want to know which vehicle you, dear reader, think is the faster performance machine. Is it the factory drag car Demon 170 or the highly modified Corvette C7 Z06? Let us know what you think in the comment section below!

  1. Pretty close race with an even start. That Dodge is very impressive for a stock car.
