Chevy Silverado 1500 Was 16th Best-Selling Vehicle In The World In 2023

As one of General Motors’ most popular and profitable vehicles, the Chevy Silverado plays a huge role in the Detroit-based automaker’s global portfolio. That being said, it appears as though the Chevy Silverado 1500 was one of the top 25 best-selling vehicles in the world last year.

According to a report from Jato, the Silverado 1500 was ranked as the 16th top-selling vehicle around the globe in 2023, with a nine-percent bump from the 2022 calendar year.

It’s worth noting that sales figures of the Chevy Silverado HD aren’t included in this ranking. In addition, the Silverado 1500 was the only General Motors product to make the top 25 rankings.

Of course, given the Silverado 1500’s global market reach, this ranking likely isn’t much of a surprise as the full-size Bow Tie brand pickup truck is sold in North America, South America, and the United Arab Emirates. Outside of these regions, the Silverado is also a low-volume model.

Chevrolet Silverado Sales - Q4 2023 - United States

In the United States, Chevrolet Silverado deliveries totaled 143,390 units in Q4 2023, an increase of about 1 percent compared to 141,912 units sold in Q4 2022.

During the complete 2023 calendar year, Silverado sales increased about 6 percent to 555,148 units.

In regard to sales numbers, the Silverado saw a 6.1-percent jump to 555,148 units throughout the 2023 calendar year.

As a reminder, the current 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 is available with a plethora of powerplant options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.

Shifting duties with the L3B is handled by the GM eight-speed automatic, while the L84, the L87 and the LZ0 are all mated to the GM 10-speed automatic.

Under the body panels lies the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, the GM Silao plant in Mexico, and the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

  1. Worth noting that the F-150 sold approximately 50% more units, and the Silverado barely beat out the Ram. But those numbers presumably don’t include GMC sales.

    1. I think you’re confusing F-series with F-150. Ford started claiming the F-series as the best selling vehicle, after the GM twins combined outsold the F-150 in multiple years. F-series now includes F-150, -250, -350, and -450, -550, and F-series chassis cab. The GM twins in quarter 3 of 2023 alone outsold the F-series by over 26,000 units. I’m not a math wizard, but sounds like GM is outselling the blue oval boys.

      1. I believe you’re probably right about US sales of Chevy/GMC compared to F-150, that has often if not typically been the case, but the report linked in the article is of worldwide sales.

Going by the report linked above, it is specifically about the F-150 and worldwide sales. I mentioned GMC sales because the report doesn’t include them together with Silverado, and GMC sales are too far down to be included in their list to add in mathematically. The list only goes down to #25. But since the F-150 outsells the Silverado by over 200,000 units worldwide , it’s probably unlikely collectively they outsell the F-150 worldwide. That would require GMC sales to be roughly half of Silverado sales, which I don’t believe is the case.

  2. Yep they got me twice..lol bought a 22 trail boss and it was junk…lemon law junk! Corporate said they’ll do me rite just order another one…lol couldn’t get!
So I took delivery of a ZR2 Dealer stock and it too is junk..!!
It’s so sad that Charlie from corporate won’t even return my calls. So it appears they don’t even have to stand by there junk! After 40 years of loyalty to GM.
So far the two Dealership I’ve dealt with are just crooks! So I lost 30k on the first one with less than 6k miles and 10 months on it and now I don’t want the second piece of junk because they won’t warranty it with less than 9 months with it and 4k miles on it. Payed 84k for it and now it’s only worth 52k. Lol.
    GM is clearly broken.

    1. There are plenty of stories like this with Ford and RAM. GM is not the only one.

The Trail Boss had a defective 3.0 ltr diesel and turbo
It was exhausting fumes in the cab.
The second truck a ZR2 with 6.2ltr. has numerous issues from Bad paint to vibrations and rattles .
It’s like driving an old piece of junk. Didn’t come with the spare I purchased.

  3. First of all…it says “The World” other than North America most of the world can’t drive large vehicles or they’re running around in some funky looking Toyota. Good for the F150 and Ram, their manufacturers only offer one choice. The Silverado also comes as a GMC Sierra, and when you add up Silverado and Sierra sales the F150 topples to second place. Meanwhile, if Cadillac decides to bring back an Escalade pick-up…that’s definitely game over for Ford (because Lincoln is on the critical list) and I don’t see a Wagoneer pick-up in Elastic’s or whatever they’re called future.

    1. While you note the report is “worldwide” you’re confusing US sales with worldwide sales. Very unlikely that Silverado/Sierra sales collectively outdo the F-150 worldwide (see other post above), because if you look at the report that would require GMC sales to be roughly half of Chevy sales, which I’m pretty sure it’s not.

But to your point, I do find it surprising that Ford sells so many F-150s outside the US. That actually makes me question the accuracy of the report. Outside Canada and Mexico I’m not sure where they’d be sold in volume.

And speaking of Canada, decades ago I ran into a couple of cops from Ireland up near Jasper. They were bicycling from San Francisco to Calgary, and were amazed by how many pickup trucks we had of any size. They made it sound like they mainly had flatbeds and trucks with beds that dump (although I suppose those could be F-150 size).
