Chevy Camaro Left In Neutral Crashes Through Parking Garage Wall: Photos

Sometimes, when we’re in a rush, we may forget something in our vehicles, like groceries, a hat, or maybe that really important sales report your boss has been bugging you about. As inconvenient as all these occurrences are, one unfortunate owner of a sixth-gen Chevy Camaro forgot to make sure his muscle car was properly parked before walking away, and the Camaro almost made a run for it.

In a social media post, the Charlotte Fire Department described an accident in which a Chevy Camaro was left in neutral and rolled through the wall of a parking garage, leaving it suspended six floors above the ground. Thankfully, the Bow Tie muscle car was unoccupied, and no one was injured. Thus, Charlotte FD was able to stabilize the Camaro and bring the incident under control in 41 minutes.

Authorities will be investigating the accident. As a friendly reminder, it never hurts to make sure your parking brakes are engaged to avoid situations like this.

In other Camaro-related developments, the Bow Tie brand’s iconic muscle car has officially been discontinued for a few months now. That being said, rumors have been circulating that the next-generation Camaro could return as an EV offering, with GM Global Chevy Chief Scott Bell even hinting at the possibility of an all-electric powertrain.

Bell pointed out that electric vehicles are capable of delivering the high-performance figures that would be expected from such a nameplate, highlighting the Corvette C8 as a prime example of how EV technology can help push the envelope.

It’s worth noting that GM President Mark Reuss also recently expressed a desire for the Camaro’s return, pitching it as a potential sporty EV with a starting price below the $30,000 mark when factoring in a $7,500 federal tax credit.

  1. Overly generous to suggest the driver “forgot” to set the brake. A lot of people are lazy and simply never set their parking brake.

The driver is lucky the car didn’t fall and kill someone, as has happened in some cities. The claim would have likely exceeded their insurance amount, absent having an umbrella policy.

  2. For as smart as all the tech is, you’d think the parking brake would automatically set once the car is off or the fob is out of the car. It does that on all my Mercedes. And my Mini Cooper. What’s the point of having an electric pushbutton parking brake if something as simple as that isn’t part of the reason for it existing in the first place?

And why did this article pivot into a propaganda push for EVs nobody wants?

    1. “Propaganda push for EVs nobody wants?” why do people like you say nonsense like this. As an owner of several ICE vehicles one of which is a C8 Z06. I am also the owner of an all-electric Audi Q4. People are adopting EVs at a slow rate and car manufacturers are continuing to make more of them. This trend will continue whether you like it or not. Stories on EVs are not propaganda as you stated just another story about automotive trends. Further, I recently traveled to Dallas, Texas and guess what I observed, an abundance of EVs all over the place in great numbers of all places in Texas. So, I would suggest you re-educate yourself on what propaganda is and if you only want an ICE vehicle, I’m fine with that and support your decision to do so. But leave the author and the rest of us alone, who are a bit more opened minded about the future of the automotive landscape.

      1. “This trend will continue whether you like it or not.” Why do people like you say nonsense like this? EVs bring nothing to the table. They’re the automotive equivalent of the Emperors New Clothes. People are adopting EVs at a ‘NO’ rate and car manufacturers are continuing to lose money on them. Like pet rocks, Cabbage Patch Kids and Michael Jackson jackets, this ridiculous trend will eventually end.

Further, I recently traveled to a bunch of car shows. Guess what I observed? Nobody likes EVs or people who drive EVs. And good luck with your battery powered Audi, because as we all know the one thing VW is really good at is electrical systems. LOLOLOLOL.

        1. Jim,

I see that a lot of people who don’t have EVs hate them. I also see that people who have EVs love them. My problem is that the haters think like you and think that EVs will just go away. They won’t. I belong to a corvette club and some of my colleagues feel the same way you do. I don’t engage in the EV conversation because they are closed minded like you on this issue. It is obvious that you are not even interested in having a real discussion on the issue and think your data is correct which it isn’t. I personally don’t care one way or the other. I will just enjoy my C8 Z06 and watch what happens. I don’t judge others regardless of what they drive and don’t want them or you to tell me the nonsense you post thinking it is fact when it isn’t no matter how many times you say it. Life is short, I’m just along for the ride.

          1. Just curious but, what makes your facts anymore factual than his? You made a great argument up until you went there.

          2. I’m not closed minded on the issue. I’ve driven just about every variant of EV. The Volt/ELR and V1 Fisker made the most sense out of all of them – but full EV is a preposterous fools errand. They’re terrible for the environment, terrible for the grid, terrible for anyone who gets into an accident with/in one, terrible for the fire department to deal with, terrible for the wrecking yard, terrible for the slave children that mine the cobalt, they’re dangerous as hell to work on, their lifespan is the length of the battery pack because they’re too expensive to replace and they have horrendous resale value as a result. EVs are basically 9,000 pound disposable electronics that they have no idea how to recycle. They’re also wildly impractical and completely soulless to drive. I’m all ears but I can’t think of a single thing an electric vehicle brings to the table other than political points and smug production. And if you think you’re saving the environment by driving one wait until they have to start dropping those 4000 pound battery packs into the Mariana Trench to get rid of them.

“I belong to a corvette club and some of my colleagues feel the same way you do. I don’t engage in the EV conversation because they are closed minded like you on this issue.” LOL. You’re in the EV closet I guess.

            1. Nice and respectful. Thanks. With regards to belonging to a Corvette Club, I will be in Bowling Green KY at the end of August for the 30th anniversary of the NCM. I will be joined by over 5000 other corvette owners and their families. Call us stupid if that makes you feel better, but we are going to have a great time. Hope you will have a good time in whatever works for you.

  3. Shocking that local building code did not require heavier barriers in such an above ground parking structure. For an unpowered vehicle to coast right through the decorative concrete wall like that is proof that it is way past time for a structural code review.

  4. Was it an automatic or. Stick? How do you not have it in park (automatic) or in reverse ( for column lock for a stick)? Are the newer ones different from how they used to be?

  8. Several years ago a guy in austin drove over the edge of a garage. SUV ended up dangling from a cable from like the 7th floor. Lucky he got out thru a window and climbed back to the garage to safety. They ended up lowering the car back to street level somehow. Crazy stuff.
