Chevy Bolt EV, Bolt EUV Recalled Again For Incorrectly Installed Battery Fire Detection Software

GM has released yet another recall for the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV, this time related to an issue with the installation of the vehicles’ battery fire detection software. In a small number of vehicles, the software may not have been correctly installed. This new recall is the latest to affect the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV, which underwent a massive recall between 2020 and 2022 to replace defective battery packs.

The Chevy Bolt EV is facing yet another recall.

The problem: according to the latest recall bulletin, certain units of the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV may have incorrectly installed diagnostic software intended to detect defective battery modules that require a replacement.

The hazards: if a vehicle has incorrectly installed diagnostic software and a defective battery module that requires replacement, it may increase the risk of a vehicle fire.

The fix: to address this issue, GM is instructing dealers to reprogram the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module 2, the Battery Energy Control Module, and the Body Control module. This process is expected to take a little over an hour on models produced between the 2020 and 2021 model years, and a little under an hour on models produced for the 2022 model year.

Affected components: advanced diagnostic software for the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module 2, Battery Energy Control Module, and Body Control module.

Affected vehicles: this recall affects certain units of the Bolt EV produced between the 2020 and 2022 model years, as well as Bolt EUV units produced for the 2022 model year.

Number of affected units: 66 Bolt EV units and 6 Bolt EUV units are affected by this recall.

Owners should: GM will notify owners of affected vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their local dealer in order to receive the recall fix. 1. GM screwed up they should fix it. I would not waste a penny out of my pocket for manufacturer’s defects. Product needs to to be flawless end of story. It’s been bad enough for us to be these guinea pigs in their process.

  2. 22 bolt owner, I got my with the batter swap with 11 miles on the clock. So far I’m not seeing info I am affected. I am curious if got a 22 produced in 21 that differs than a true 22 produced 22? All I can say, I’ve had a really good time with my bolt.

  5. My 2020 bolt EV is one of the 66 targeted for the recall. The dealer told me there was a software update needed when I went in for a tire rotation. I cannot wait for the 2026 bolt to drop!
