2025 Cadillac XT5 Production Start Sooner Than Initially Planned

Earlier this year, GM Authority reported that production of the 2025 Cadillac XT5 was scheduled to commence in early July 2024. That being said, it now appears as though General Motors has accelerated the XT5‘s start of regular production (SORP) date.

GM Authority has learned that the 2025 Cadillac XT5’s start of regular production has been moved up to June 24th, 2024, or two weeks before originally planned.

As a reminder, the Cadillac XT5 is due for an all-new second generation. However, this next-gen model will be exclusive to the Chinese market, making the XT5’s immediate future in North America uncertain. In fact, it wasn’t until March 2024 that GM Authority reported that the luxury crossover—among other Cadillac products—would even be available for the 2025 model year at all. With that in mind, the distant future of the XT5 in North America remains to be seen.

In other 2025 XT5-related developments, GM Authority recently reported that the luxury crossover will lose the Platinum Package (RPO code JSE) for the new model year. Previously, this interior and aesthetic upgrade package was available for Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels of the 2024 XT5. Pricing was set at $4,850 for Premium Luxury trims and $3,650 for Sport models.

Under the hood, the Cadillac XT5 is offered with the choice between two powerplants, including the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, rated at 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. No matter the engine option, every XT5 unit features the GM nine-speed automatic transmission as standard fare, while FWD is equipped as standard and AWD is optional.

Under the body panels, the XT5 is underpinned by the GM C1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee. Notably, production of the Chinese-market XT5 takes place at the SAIC-GM Jinqiao Cadillac plant in Shanghai.

  1. So many good GM China only models. I don’t understand. I want the Equinox PHEV technology that gets 96 miles on a single charge. Bring that technology here now. What are you waiting for?

  2. Except for a few very minor tweaks over the years the 2025 XT5 essentially started production way back in 2016 (for the 2017MY). It’s a tired old product that obviously even gm doesn’t care about.

  3. It is a good vehicle, but it could be so much greater if GM tried at all. If Cadillac would commit to it, they could easily carve out a great niche for the XT5. Just go to the new electrical architecture that gets Super Cruise, switch to the CT5’s AWD, and give it very daring looks. Think more XTV than XT5.

  5. It’s sad 😔 to think that there is already an updated 2025 XT5 available in China, but GM here believes keeping the 2017 XT5 version is all that we deserve!
