2024 Corvette E-Ray Launches In Japan

Back in January 2023, General Motors officially pulled the wrapper off the 2024 Corvette E-Ray, which stands as a new take on ICE-powered Vette models with the introduction of a hybrid powertrain. While the electrified Vette has since begun roaming American streets, General Motors has now announced that the C8 E-Ray will be available in Japan.

Joining the Corvette Stingray and Corvette Z06 in the Asian market, the Corvette E-Ray will be offered in the factory-built RHD configuration. Only 3LZ units with the ZER Performance Package will be available, along with just five paint colors. Japanese pricing starts at 23,500,000 yen, which converts to roughly $150,000 USD at the current exchange rate.

As a reminder, the C8 E-Ray features two notable firsts for production-spec Corvette examples, including the aforementioned hybrid powertrain and an advanced eAWD drivetrain. In regard to the former, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 gasoline found in the C8 Stingray – where it develops 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque – is complimented by a 1.9-kWh battery and an electric motor that brings total output up to 655 horsepower.

This ICE and EV fusion allows for an eAWD system that utilizes the front-mounted electric motor and rear-mounted gasoline engine for maximum grip. This combination allows for a 0-60 mph sprint in 2.5 seconds and a quarter-mile run in 10.5 seconds, making it the quickest production Corvette to date.

Interestingly, the E-Ray doesn’t feature Ultium battery and Ultium Drive motor technologies, as the electrified Vette was under development before General Motors began heavily investing into electric vehicle tech.

Under the skin lies the GM Y2 platform, which underpins all Corvette C8 variants, while production takes place at the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky. Pricing for the U.S. market starts at $104,295 including the destination freight charge for a 1LZ unit in coupe form.
