General Motors has released a Special Coverage bulletin covering a plethora of 2021 model year GM vehicles for an issue with the evaporative emissions purge pump.
According to Special Coverage bulletin N242441120, a bevy of Chevy, GMC, Buick and Cadillac products equipped with the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine may have a condition where evaporative emissions purge pump can fail. If this event were to happen, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp – or Check Engine Light – will illuminate and a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DFC) will be set. To correct this issue, certified GM technicians are to inspect affected vehicles and replace the evaporative emissions purge pump as necessary, free of charge.
The list of affected vehicles includes:
- 2021 Chevy Blazer
- 2021 GMC Acadia
- 2021 Buick Envision
- 2021 Cadillac CT4
- 2021 Cadillac CT5
- 2021 Cadillac XT4
- 2021 Cadillac XT5
- 2021 Cadillac XT6
As part of the Special Coverage, the aforementioned condition is covered for a period of 15 years of 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership.
For affected vehicles covered by the Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after June 5th, 2024 are covered by this Special Coverage and must be submitted using labor operation codes. Claims with repair orders prior to June 5th, 2024 must be submitted to the Service Contract provider.
As a reminder, the LSY powerplant was implemented in a wide range of General Motors products from the 2019 to 2025 model year. Across all its vehicle applications, the engine developed anywhere from 228 to 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

You sure its only the 2021 models? Because I do have a 2022 XT5 with that engine.
So u can be sure you’re check engine light will come on a day after this warranty is over. Built to break down just after warranty gm. A great engineering feat
I’m sure you can make that claim about anything but at least the extended coverage. I’ve seen 2 Ford Ecoboost turbos go out within 5K of the 100K mile extended warranty.
My buddy had his 3.5 Ecoboost blow up with 61,000 miles. Ford refused to help because it was over the 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. However, his Ford dealer sold him a new motor at cost and put it in for cost. Even with that, it still cost him $7,500 to replace. But the normal price would have been about $13,000 is what he told me. This was about 5-6 years ago.
That’s every manufacturer. I had a Suzuki SX4 where the GPS unit s*** the bed literally just two weeks after the bumper to bumper warranty gave way. And on my Toyota Rav (the undisputed king of reliability), the tail lights started getting condensate buildup after only a few months after warranty. I always said “The warranty is the one part of the car where precision engineering is to the tightest tolerances.”
Just had this part replaced on a 2023 Envision, so it might not just be the 2021 models that have this problem
My 2023 Acadia had one fail and now 5 months later the new one is on it’s way out. I can here it a mile away when it runs.
Yup 2023 ct4 replaced at under 8,000 miles. What’s the issue, defective part or a pollution system that isn’t designed right? Also had a 2021 trailblazer with under 40,000 miles. Chevy service management said it’s all 4 cylinders. Not good
