Making its grand debut way back in January 2022, the Chevy Silverado EV ushers in a new era for the Bow Tie brand’s popular Silverado nameplate. With dealership orders for the range-topping RST First Edition finally opening in March 2024, GM Authority is set to get behind the wheel of the all-electric pickup truck very soon. That being said, we wanted to know if you, dear reader, had any burning questions regarding the Silverado EV RST.
GM Authority will be among the first to drive the new 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition. For readers who may be unaware, the RST First Edition is positioned at the top of the Silverado EV trim hierarchy, and features goodies like the Multi-Flex Tailgate and Midgate, four-wheel steering, a panoramic fixed glass roof, an 11-inch digital Driver Information Center, a 17.7-inch touchscreen, and the GM Super Cruise drive assist system as standard affair.
Of course, as the range-topping variant, the RST First Edition is no scotch when it comes to horsepower figures, as General Motors gives the electric pickup an output rating of 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque. Motivation is drawn from GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium Drive motor technologies, while an eAWD system transmits the power to the ground. Range estimates stand at 440 miles on a full charge.
In regard to structure, the Chevy Silverado EV rides on the GM BT1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan. Finally, pricing for the RST First Edition starts at $96,495.
So then, we want you to tell us – what do you want to know about the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST? Tell us by posting your questions in the comments section below, and we’ll answer as soon as we’re able. It should also be noted that driving impressions and detailed feature spotlights will be under embargo until Thursday, May 23rd, so keep that in mind.

How about you go back to Mary and GM and tell them that $96k for an EV truck is absolutely ridiculous and the American people aren’t going to pay it. Now if they offered this so called “truck” for $60k, plus a free charger, and also cover garage installation fee. Then I think the American public would consider. But $100k for a truck in this economy is “suicide”. Especially when you start using the EV as a truck and the surplus of EV chargers are rare in many areas of the country. Let alone the TIME it takes for charging.
TNTSierra: 100 grand for ANY truck is silly. Unless if you truly use it for hauling OTR like larger trailers, etc and you can make good money doing so, the most any truck should cost is 50 grand. Obviously I’m not a truck guy and thus could care less, but IF I were buying a truck it would absolutely be out the second it got over 30 grand.
I enrolled in the early access program for $100 at the prospect of a $40K truck with 400mi range. It doesn’t seem like it turned out that way. Perhaps I’ll be able to get a beat up 4WT in a few years and hit that price point.
I don’t get it. Isn’t the entire point of going EV to be the most efficient? No matter if you are driving ICE or EV, the huge wheels, panoramic roof and all the other goodies add weight and complexity to a vehicle. More weight = less efficient. In an EV, that = less range without going to larger battery capacity. Which leads to higher costs.
To me it’s just all kind of stupid. No matter what I drive and especially in my EV, it’s all about getting the most for the least amount. If I want a sports car, I’ll buy a sports car and would expect huge rims and high performance. If I buy a truck, I want a real truck and yes it could easily be an EV. I don’t care what anyone says. Thus far when it comes to EV trucks, it’s the Ford. But once Ram brings it’s full EV truck out, I think that will be the best of the best. While GM was making this and those fat turd Hummers, they should have been working on smaller and more efficient EV’s for the masses.
I think you will be underwhelmed with the RAM as well. Trucks need to be able to do “heavy”, which means more power, which means more batteries, which means even more weight, which means even more power/batteries. In the end, a real ev truck is going to be heavy. Unless you want a 50 mile range when loaded. And I fully imagine RAM will initially release a top end truck with higher margins(IE pano roof etc). You’d be crazy not too. Margins on stripper ev’s tend to be negative at the moment, saved only by carbon credits. rebates.
I think what you’ll find is that most EV owners, solar power owners, etc, are paying to remove guilt more than to truly make do with less.
I would appreciate a review of the DIC and phone connectivity in GM’s post-Apple Carplay/Android Auto era.
When does it get a supercharged V8 like the TRX and Raptor R?
Will it have the ability to one pedal drive/adjustable regen braking? What will be the highest rate of charge KW/h? Assuming it has battery preconditioning, how does it activate? Will it help seeking DC chargers when navigation is used?
Will there be any complimentary charging from any of the larger charging companies? Finally, will it have a CCS or NACS charger plug?
Thanks.
Will the info screen stay lit up and the tailgate closed?
1. What’s the real-world range in -25F weather? (Don’t do just a summer drive and report how great it is.)
2. How much of a fender bender can it take, before everyone goes boogeyman about potential battery damage and liability etc., and it gets written as a total loss?
3. Tire life? Other EVs are proving to eat tires.
How well can it accommodate a driver of 6’6″.
This would probably be considered a driving impression, but I understand that most EVs have incredible acceleration. With the weight of this vehicle, does this take (relative) pedal effort to get up to speed/come up from a coast, like most traditional heavier 4x4s, or does this have more of a ‘hair trigger’, or sensitive, pedal?
Does the Silverado EV have “camp mode” like a Tesla?
Can any of the seats be removed or reconfigured?
Do any third parties make a camper top that is compatible/supported?
I have a few questions. First off, I’m genuinely curious about it having AWS. What’s the radius of it compared to a Silverado without AWS? It reminds me of the Quadrasteer function on the GMT-800 platform trucks & SUVs. I know that the RST trim will be released first, what about the WT? What features will it have/not have? Most importantly, what will its range & power output be?
How’s the UX of public charging while towing something like a 21ft boat, or even a small 5×8 utility trailer?
1: Is be interested to see all the info, pictures, and videos you can provide about the mid gate and tailgate when used to extend the bed. What configurations are possible, how difficult is it to put them into those configurations, etc.
2: Towing – how difficult is it to get lined up with a trailer, to back up with a trailer, etc.
3: The external power ports. How ergonomic is it to actually power a house with them? How quickly does it draw power from the truck, is it enough to actually power a house, can the truck be powered off while you’re powering your house with it, etc.
4: The self driving and driver assist features – how well do they work, do they work while pulling a trailer, is it better in city or out in the country, etc.
5: How feasible and difficult would it be to put a shell on the bed, open the midgate, and convert the bed to a camper? Are there ledges where platforms could be mounted for counters, mattress, etc? And would it be easy to access from the cab with the mid gate open?
6: To go along with #5, do the front seats fully recline and or fully rotate? If the vehicle could be easily converted to a camper whenever needed, the front seats would need to be able to fully recline and/or fully rotate to face the back.
7: If you were to bring solar panels with you to a sunny desert, how many would it take to charge the truck from zero to full change in 1 day?
5. In official advertisements I have seen a couple of times the truck pictured with a bed-cap whose roof was lining up with the cab’s roof. The dilemma is to fit the cap with the slanted back of the cabin. I would assume that a larger camper style enclosure would also be possible. It would be interesting to know which third party caps and camper manufacturers intend to match the Silverado EV.
7. The maximum sun power available on earth is about 100 watts per square foot at noon. Hi grade solar panels can reach about 30% efficiency, if you keep them lined up at a right angle (90 degrees incidental to the moving sun), which is about 30 watts per square foot. During a no cloud 10 hours day, you may have to derate by at least 50% with fixed panels, say 15 watts per square foot, yielding 150 watt-hours per square foot per day.
The small battery pack for this truck is in the range of 175 kWh capacity (212 kWh for the large one).
It could be charged in one day with a 1,200 square foot array (about 6 by 200 feet).
To carry the thinking further, if a large camper roof was totally covered with solar panels (which is likely to be developed in the future), say about 20 feet long, it would take 10 days to charge.
One of the problems with a camper, is that the total weight carrying capacity of this truck is about 1,500 pnds, including passengers and gear.
Cargo bay dimensions
What are the heights between the floor and the cabin top, and between the floor and the cargo bay sides.
What is the width between wheel-wells, and the max width elsewhere.
Looks like a great truck. I have one ordered can’t wait.
WHAT !!!! $100 GRAND….I agree if this truck was $60 grand , more people would be interested…But most people with a regular job and a house ,with a spouce and kids, until they win the Lottery that truck is untouchable.
If GM wants to sell lots of these EV’S ,then price these more reasonable for the average household to Afford.
Sock it to the American buyer, let the Rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. Good luck GM ,trying to sell this overly priced truck….
How many more battery’s cells does it have than the lightning? How much more does the battery pack weigh than the lightning battery pack?
How is night time visibility with the bar as the headlights vs traditional gas vehicle lights or the gmc sierra ev? With Tesla being its biggest competitor in the EV market: Will the GM vehicles be getting updates over its life time like tesla? How is the self driving on the vehicle? What features beside the midgate make this vehicle better than the Cybertruck or hummer ev? What will be removed or downgraded when the go to the cheaper version of this vehicle in the future?
Since there are articles stating that GM will be phasing out Apple CarPlay in many cars, Will the First Edition Silverado EV RST retain Android Auto and Apple CarPlay ?
I’ve been waiting to purchase my rst. At no avail. I have been told I can it’s not out yet. It already May and you stated it’s been available since March? I haven’t even been ask if I want it built? I signed up for it during it’s first commercial during the super bowl almost 4 years ago now. What about the colors I was told it’s only coming out in 3 colors at first. I love the color blue I’ve seen on it every time it’s been displayed. Yet that’s not one of the color options I’m hearing?
What is the sound quality inside, is there much wind or road noise?
This begs the question of acoustic numbers which would be interesting but often difficult to obtain.
Does the RST have noise reducing glass and windshield? Does the glass roof have a sun shade?
Several things to check: 1) Does Google Maps come with satellite mapping? 2) what display configuration can you see in HUD and what information will be displayed? 3)any 120V outlet inside the passenger cabin? 4) any camera to see inside the bed ?
*Confirm that infotainment navigation is same as 2019 Equinox as that is supperior to Android Auto that is useless.
*Promo video shows 4 wheel steer…confirm that it is in RST, show real life parking in shopping center parking lots & parcade.
*Confirm you can raise and lower the trucks height.

Anyone living north of Tennessee better forget owning an EV of any kind let alone spending a 100 grand for one of these trucks. Who needs or wants a 17 inch screen?
